~Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me each month and share what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! Post your photo(s) on your blog or on Instagram (#yarnalong) and then share a link below to either your blog or Instagram post!~ (This post contains affiliate links.)
I’m sorry to be posting Yarn Along late! Giuseppe and Little Ollie were neutered yesterday and it was a very full day. Giuseppe is doing just fine, but Ollie needs a little extra attention for a few days while he heals up because his surgery was a bit more invasive. The poor thing has to wear the cone of shame.
I am still knitting on my Antarktis shawl but nearing the end! I am planning to cast on a cardigan for myself next and I am anxious to finish this up and get started on that.
I read I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings in July. Maya Angelou bravely lays her story out there for the reader in a straightforward yet beautiful way. It was one of the best memoirs I’ve read and I definitely recommend it. I absolutely fell in love with her and now have several more of her books on hold at the library. However, she describes serious abuses that she experienced as a child, and I chose to skip those pages because I couldn’t bear to read about it. (I mention this so that you are aware and can do a little investigating on your own beforehand if you choose to read it.)
I started a new book a few days ago called Growth of the Soil. It’s a Nobel Prize winner that I only recently became aware of. So far it reads to me like a “Ginny” book for sure. It makes me think a little of Giants in the Earth which I loved. I think my reading has been a little all over the place recently and it feels good to be reading a dark pioneer tale. My favorite!

Both those prairie books sound great. i just finished March by Geraldine Brooks. The story of what happened to the father of the Little Women while he was away at the Civil War. Fantastic story, well-written, but the horrors of the Civil War were hard to read. Important reading though as it covered some of the issues of the war that I never considered.

Oh dear. I hope the dogs are all better now – I’m so late this month that it’s nearly September!
Nice coloured yarn Ginny.

I know why the caged bird sings is a truly remarkable book. I too admire her work. Hope the woofs are better soon.
