~Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me each month and share what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! Post your photo(s) on your blog or on Instagram (#yarnalong) and then share a link below to either your blog or Instagram post!~ (this post contains affiliate links.)
I haven’t finished a knitting project in months, but this cardigan is getting close, even after ripping out to start over! I’m so glad that I did start over because alternating skeins has made me so much happier with it. I’m almost finished with the first sleeve, so maybe another week and I’ll be done. Of course, there’s no rush. It seems that we are nowhere near sweater weather with highs still in the 90s.
I finished the third Mitford book, and my plan was to take a break from that series. I started Miss Read Village School, but I ended up changing my mind and picking up Out to Canaan, the fourth Mitford book. I don’t know…life’s been stressful and Mitford really helps clear my mind before I go to sleep. I love that the chapters are divided up into smaller sections so I can read just a little if that’s all I have energy for. And I love the familiarity of the characters. I suspect I will be sad when I finish this series. I guess that’s why folks reread them!

Mabel’s cardigan is so pretty. I love the subtle variegation, the way it gives the garment depth. It’s very autumnal and she will be so cute in it!

I think you will enjoy the Village School once you begin reading it. It is a lovely series. The cardigan looks lovely

Love both sets of books! Have just finished TO BE WHERE YOU ARE. I pass them on to a friend who then passes them on at her church. Almost on the home stretch of a Whiskey Glass Shawl.

The Mitford Books are the best!!!! I have read all of them and listened to them all on CD. They are so homey and wholesome!!! Good reading! MY favorite one was Back to Holly Springs. I have heard so much about the Miss Read books but never read them. I will put them on my LONG list of what I want to read. I just love to read and I am just learning how to knit!! Thanks for your blog. I really enjoy it!

I like comfort reading too, I like to be lulled to sleep with quiet stories. Glad you are happy with your knitting! I am making cowls, lots and lots of cowls.

Hi Ginny, I don’t have a personal blog or a personal Instagram account (just for my business – it’s hard enough keeping those up to date!). Is there another way I can participate in the Yarn Along?

For me, reading miss Read means Autumn, as in Summer I never feel like them but when mist and woodsmoke and cosiness become realities, that’s when I turn to them. So to read them now would mean embracing Autumn and I am just not ready to do that yet! Last Autumn and Winter here in England dragged on for so long and I went through a long illness; I am definitely holding the next season at arm’s length until I am forced to give in to it!

I love both of those series of books. Have been thinking of picking up the Miss Read books again.

Mitford is the best! It’s so comforting!
I started Miss Read several months ago and then laid it aside for something else and haven’t finished it, though I do like it!
