Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me every Wednesday to share a single photo of what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! Share your photo on your blog, on Instagram (#yarnalong), or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

Yarn Along-8889

There is very little knitting happening because the cucumbers just won’t stop. I seem to be spending all my spare time making pickles. I did knit a few rows on my barn sweater, though with temperatures in the 90s every day, it doesn’t feel like a priority right now.

I’m still reading Therese, Faustina, and Bernadette, but I am also reading Walking with Purpose now for my ladies Bible study.ย  It’s pretty humbling, and hopefully will be life changing because every time the author starts describing the sort of mom that needs this book because she is a total mess, she describes me exactly.

  1. Anne Marie says:

I think I need to read both of these books!

  2. I feel like most moms have moments where they have it all together…and the rest of the time we’re a mess. I think we should just redefine mess. Or maybe redefine “having it all together.”

    Peace be with you!

  3. sounds like i might need that book too. love the yarn you are using on your barn sweater ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. parents are a total mess by definition – the more kids the more of a mess we become – revel in it.

parents that aren’t a mess are
    a) hiding it well
    b) aliens
    c) put together when we see them
    d) smart enough to hide the evidence and leave their kids at home while shopping.

  5. We’re probably more than a few days away from sweater weather ;-).

  6. The garter edging on your barn sweater is just perfect! Beautiful! And as always, thank you for your wonderful book recommendations. I’m going to look at them both right now!

  7. I am not a Mom but often feel a total mess! Life is that way but God is with us in the middle of it. Don’t be discouraged, just do what you can do today. That’s all God asks… He does not ask for what we can’t do…

  8. I’m in the same boat with my barn sweater, I’m using the first of my handspun, and right now it doesn’t seem like it will ever be warm enough to wear it.

  9. “Itโ€™s pretty humbling, and hopefully will be life changing because every time the author starts describing the sort of mom that needs this book because she is a total mess, she describes me exactly.”

    Well then.

Pretty sure I need to read this book too, after your above description!

  10. Gwendolyn says:

Every time you talk about your cucumbers and making pickles, it just makes my mouth water. I’m sure you are way past that feeling! Your barn sweater is looking gorgeous. I’ll have to check out that book “Walking with Purpose”. At first I thought it was a book about “walking”, but it might just be what my daughter needs to help her through this stage. She’s been taking sewing/quilting lessons from the neighbor lady while the kids are in Bible School. She’s been getting back home at 11:30 and 10:30 at night and loving every minute of it. The first night they made a little doll quilt, and the 2nd night they started doing 4 patches. I was impressed how the points lined up. Enjoy your week and hope you got feeling better.

  11. Don’t be too hard on yourself. I think most all mom’s feel that way at one time or another if not most of the time.

  12. I totally understand the non-urgency of knitting during these hot days. It sounds like you will have lots of wonderful pickles to enjoy this fall and winter! Happy Knitting!

  13. The garden and visitors are taking up a lot of my time which is lovely. Thank you for hosting.

  14. That barn sweater has been on my queue for a while now. Your buttery version is just perfect.

  15. I hope that the cucumbers give you some time to knit! love your knitting color immensely and I finally have some knitting time since the wedding is in the past ๐Ÿ™‚

I love to hear from you!
