Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

Here and there I work a row on my jet stream shawl, but realistically I know that I won’t be finished with it anytime soon.  I am working on gifts right now during most of my knitting time, which is scarce.  I think it’s good to work a row here and there though on my shawl because those few stitches will add up to a little progress which is better than none at all.

I am hardly reading either, actually I am not sure how many pages I have actually read in my newest book, because it’s on my new Kindle!  I downloaded The Brothers Karamazov a few days after my Kindle arrived, because that is the book that made me want one in the first place.  It is just so long that I can’t comfortably hold the paper version.  I’ve been reading it all week now, and according to the Kindle I’ve read four percent of the book.  So I guess I’ll be reading this book for a very long time!

  1. Ginny, have you seen this book yet?

I thought of you when I saw it (well, I thought of you right after I thought of me :-)

I continue to love your knits and the pictures of your beautiful family.

    Best,
    Bethany

I am doing the same with my sweater, a few rows here, a few rows there. A little bit is better than nothing.

  3. Heather says:

Sorry to have linked twice, the first one didn’t work quite right and this is my first time doing the yarn along. I read the brothers Karamazov about 2 years ago and I’m still pondering over it. I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

  4. MotherOwl says:

Cold times = knitting time for me …

  5. Rosemary says:

I read The Brothers Karamazov on my Kindle too, and it certainly took quite awhile! Same thing with Anna Karenina. They come in quite useful for Russian classics. :)

  6. That is my husband’s favorite book of all time! He’s read it at least four or five times, I think, and even got to co-teach a class on it (he is a criminal law professor, and he put together this class on crime and punishment in literature for 3rd years, and they read a bunch of Dostoevsky) Also, I just put a Kindle on my amazon wish list for Christmas–I’ve been resistant to e-readers since I read Nicholas Carr’s The Shallows, but I think for novels and other fairly mindless reading, it is a handy thing. We’ve been out of extra book case space since we moved here six years ago, so most books I buy end up going to the second hand shop anyway. Might as well just keep them in my e-library!

This time of year is hard for crafting. I find I either have lots of time or none at all. Feast or famine.

  7. Kathleen says:

I find myself knitting in between activities at home and when we are out even standing at the stove cooking dinner. The shawl will be very pretty once it is finished. Happy Knitting!

  8. lori says:

i’m so glad you are finding a bit of time, even in a single row or paragraph, it’s good for you. i hope the kindle works better for you sweetie! your shawl looks beautiful (need to go follow the link now!)

  9. Debby says:

I’m so interested to find out how you get on with Dostoyevsky I haven’t read anything by him but love Chekov and Tolstoy…I wonder how they compare.

  10. What a beautiful yarn!!
I agree with Tricia, how do you do all this. I admire you!
Thanks for your hospitality, hope you will have a lovely day.

  11. Joy says:

The yarn for your shawl is lovely!

  12. Kelly J. R. says:

I think it’s nice to have a few different knitting projects going on – long ones that you work on here and there, and the short, quick knits for when you need to feel like you’re making some progress.

  13. karen says:

my reading has been minimal and I have not a single child in this house! But I’ve been quite busy with my knitting :)

  14. Ginny, you are so ambituous! A new baby (brand new), gifts for Christmas, a shawl AND reading. You are a wonder :)

    • Ginny says:

Well, as far as Christmas gifts, I’m only knitting two tiny bunny sweaters. My other gifts are still in the form of unwound skeins, but they aren’t Christmas gifts so I have more time. I’m not nearly as ambitious as you and those night before St. Nicholas day gifts!!! :)

Even though christmas preparations and the general end-off year troubles have meant little crafting time for me lately, I have a little progress to show. Sheldon is almost finished: He already has one leg! The other three are finished and stuffed, but still need to be sewn on. I hope’ll finish it before next weekend. And another update: we decorated our christmas tree yesterday. I hope you are all also having a wonderful pres-christmas time! This post is part of Tami’s Amis WiP Wednesday and Ginny’s Yarn Along.
