Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

I’ve had very little time for knitting in the past week, which is difficult, but true.  I’ve only managed to work on Keats’ vest because it is mindless round and round knitting.  He, by the way, isn’t helping me with it as I had hoped he would.  It’s baseball season, and I guess he’s preoccupied.  I’ve got three skeins of gorgeous Madelinetosh wound and ready for a new project, but just can’t seem to get started.  I am also working on something very practical and frugal for Seth’s upcoming birthday, but I’ll keep that a secret (Seth reads my blog.)  Really he knows about it, but I am pretending that he doesn’t.

I am absolutely loving Far From the Madding Crowd despite the fact that there are frequently words if not entire sentences that I don’t understand.  With reading time precious and spare, who has time to grab a dictionary every other minute?  Not I.  I get the big picture, and that’s what counts.

  1. I love the colours in your vest. I’m sharing some finished hats for the grandchildren today. I’ve just finished reading Evans Above by Rhys Bowen, a series about a policeman in Wales.

  2. Katharina says:

I came to your site from someone else joining the yarn along and thought I might join too with adding the first knitting post to my blog :-) Next week I know that it is Wednesdays so I might also update again!
Keep the good work up with knitting, your blog and probably even more important, your kids ;-)

  3. Debbie says:

I totally get how busy life can get. I really love this project you are working on. The yarn is great. I love varigated yarn! I have had “Far From the Maddening Crowd” on my “to read” shelf for some time so thanks for the recommendation! Enjoy the rest of your week!

  4. Maren says:

Joining you again with Salman Rushdi and another Milo…
    Love from Austria,
    Maren

  5. Erika says:

The colors in the milo vest you are knitting are beautiful!

Thank you for organizing the yarn along ! :)

  6. Kristina says:

Oh my goodness, I LOVE the colors in your vest!

  7. Love those colors!! I am itching to start a milo (or three as the case may be!), I’m almost finished with their fall sweaters… Happy knitting!

  8. Rachel says:

Thanks for the link-up Ginny! Your Sunday Sweater is darling. Congratulations on making the pattern and topping the charts. :)

  9. Sandy says:

Not much of a reader, I tend to be on the computer or be knitting or crocheting while others are reading. I read on vacation at poolside, so nothing going on that front now. Love your blue and green! A favorite combo. Haven’t been around much, happy to see you all again.

  10. Nicole says:

Ginny, I have never knitted a Milo before but have the pattern printed and yarn ready to go. I really like the colors you chose for this vest!

  11. anushka says:

    milos are in the air!

  12. Sharron says:

I somehow goofed up my link too and there are two. Sorry about that. I really like that vest. I’m wondering if I could manage that Sunday sweater. I think I can, I think I can…..

  13. Hi Ginny! Mindless knitting is a necessity – especially after releasing such a lovely pattern! Congrats! I’m working on flower girl sweaters for my sisters wedding in a few weeks. I have great hopes of finishing her bridal shawl soon too… but (big sigh) you know how it is, life as a mama doesn’t always equal knitting time!

    happy knitting!
    all the best!
    Christina

  14. Grace says:

Clearly I don’t know what I’m doing because I only typed my name and not “at Uncommon Grace”. LOL!

  15. KC says:

This is the first time I’ve ever joined in, I’m very excited!

  16. Oh Ginny, I love reading on a Kindle/Kindle App on another device for books like that – click on the words and it gives you the definition. It’s how I’ve not only read loads of books I mightn’t have otherwise, but also expanded my vocabulary of useless, forgotten words :)

  17. The blue-greens of the vest are just lovely. Outside, the world is cloaked in fog so I’m at the moment smitten with bold pops of color. I haven’t read that author. I’m knitting some gifts for my girls, but really have my eye on a cardigan pattern for myself. But, it seems like this season my own sweater is a bit off. I think each soccer afternoon will deliver so much time to knit but then I’m so wrapped up in the sideline action I hardly knit. Go figure! xoxo

  18. my absolute favorite of Hardy’s is Tess of the D’Ubervilles- if you need a tragedy, this is a great one

  19. Julia says:

You may not be getting much done but it sure is beautiful.

  20. Joy says:

Keats vest is so colorful and happy-looking. I really love that colorway. :)

  21. Ginny,
    Beautiful colors in that yarn.
Most of my knitting time happens in the car, so some weeks I don’t get that much knitting done. :) I just started a pair of socks for Jeff that I’m excited about.
I want to knit a vest for Bracken. I’m still searching ravelry for a pattern I like with some DK weight yarn that I have on hand.

    Love, Taryn

  22. Natalie says:

I loved that book as well. I think, actually, that it is time to re-read it. I saw the test knit of your Sunday sweater on “In the Heart of my Home”. I look forward to trying it as well when it is available…it’s beautiful.

  23. Jeni says:

That’s why you need to read it on your Kindle! There’s a built-in dictionary – you just click on the word.

Lovely colors you’re knitting with. You know I’m all about color. :)

  24. Emma says:

Love the colour of the milo.

  25. Very pretty! Thanks for hosting :)

  26. love the colors of the vest. Thanks again for hosting this!

  27. Amy says:

Cute vest, the colors are beautiful!

  28. Tina says:

Such a cute vest and I’m happy to hear you are enjoying your book – I must add that one to my reading list :)

  29. Nancy says:

Hi Ginny! I’m back after not participating for a few weeks. I love the Yarn Along – thanks for hosting!

  30. Sara says:

I’m totally digging the color of that vest!

  31. Barbara says:

Love those colors on that vest!
One thing I really like about the Kindle is if you come across a word you don’t know, you just touch the word and the dictionary listing pops up (though not a good enough reason on its own to buy one). ;-)
I’ll be back later with my link.

  32. Esther says:

I love that you read classics — it reminds me to get my reading (and knitting) on!! Thank you!

  33. Rebecca says:

Your choice of yarns for the Milo is beautiful! I am still working on one that I started months ago. I had lost it during our move and just unpacked it the other day. :)

  34. Donna says:

I haven’t gotten much knitting done either lately. I just love the color of that yarn you are using. I think I tell you that every week! It’s one of my favorite color combinations.

  35. HEather says:

I say that much of my current reading is light, because I don’t have the time to grab a dictionary or the mental capacity to follow many different characters. One day again I will read those tomes. Love the vest colors. So bright and fun.

  36. I enjoy that kind of reading, too…just the craftsmanship (or womanship!) of words is fascinating even if by the time you reach the end of the sentence, you have know idea what you just read. It IS all about the big picture, isn’t it? :)

  37. Lovely, lovely colors on the Milo – looks adorable :-)

  38. Nadja says:

Ah, a Milo in Chroma! I did one for Gemma in a rainbow Chroma (“Prism”) and it is very soft and is holding up very well. I am knitting a Milo for Dominic right now, and the mindless round-and-round is just what I need at the moment, although my reading is decidedly less challenging than yours! I love Thomas Hardy (I remember how I hated The Mayor of Casterbridge when I began the book and loved it by the time I finished it), but I have to be in the right frame of mind to tackle him.

  39. Svenna says:

I loved your Sunday sweater pattern, congratulations!
The vest seems to be coming along nicely, even without the help ;)

  40. Love the colours of the vest. Far from the Madding Crowd is being serialised on BBC Radio 4 at the moment, first episode was on last Sunday it was a lovely adaptation. Hope you enjoy the rest of the book.

  41. Kate says:

I love the colors of Keats’ vest! I have Far from the Madding Crowd saved on my nook – it’s been catching my attention when I scroll through and I think it just moved to the top of my list :)

  42. naturmama says:

    Luna 5 –finally finished :-)

Ginny, I LOVE your Sunday Sweater! And so lovely on top of your page! I am happy for you, that it became such a success. I will have to get the instructions soon myself…

    Best,

    Caroline

  43. Christina says:

Looks like a well loved book. :)

  44. Mary G says:

love the vest colors … what yarn?

  45. Tracey says:

I have one son that lives and breathes baseball so I know what you’re saying about being preoccupied. These days I am finding all I want to do is knit, which really isn’t all that practical when one has a family that expects clean clothes and food every single day! Geesh, they really cut into my knitting time ;)
Very cute vest Ginny and I hope you find a little more time to knit.

  46. Carly says:

What gorgeous coloured yarn Ginny. I am amazed that us mama’s get any knitting done (or reading), we have to get in a bit of indulgence (when children are in the bath (dodging splashes) etc) to keep sane :) x

  47. Blue, green and yellow are always so pretty together, love your yarn and the shape of the vest. Thanks for hosting Yarn Along!

  48. Yao says:

Thank you for hosting another Yarn-Along this week! I have been looking for a new pattern for sweater these days. Also a new book to read. Both are not easy. But I can always find some surprise or interesting hint from your Yarn-Along!

  49. swanski says:

Cute vest! Congratulations on your pattern being on the top charts on ravelry!! Lovely work and photos :)

  50. SusanD1408 says:

Love the colours of the vest.
The good thing about having a kindle is you can arrow to the word and get the meaning straight away. It has done me wonders and it has meant I have been able to read a lot of books for a previous period. They use sooo many words that aren’t used anymore it’s unbelievable.
