Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. I am sort of cheating this week. I have been knitting in every spare moment, and not reading much. The body of Gabe’s sweater will be finished tonight, and I will probably be listening to Willa Cather’s Song of the Lark on this nifty little gadget
that I got for my birthday. I live in the dark ages to some extent because we’ve never bought anything that begins with an “i” and don’t even carry cell phones except on trips. I recently went shopping for a new CD player and realized based on what I saw that it is time to move forward a bit. I really wanted a way to listen to audiobooks while knitting, and I also wanted an easy way to play them for my children (I plug it into a little speaker.) I love this tiny little talking thing! It bookmarks the place where I leave off, and it doesn’t have any unnecessary bells and whistles (well, it may, but I am blissfully unaware of them.) My only regret is that I don’t care for the narrator’s voice on this particular Willa Cather novel. Cather is easily my favorite author and I realized as the story began that I have created a voice for her in my mind that just doesn’t match up with the voice on the audiobook. I won’t listen to any more of her books, but will stick to reading them myself.

Wow, I don’t even know what that gadget is. Right here in the dark ages with you. BUt I was gifed an iPod once upon a time…which I use almost entirely for audiobooks while knitting and washing dishes. Ha! Your sweater looks great. Knit on.
Oh, I know exactly what you mean about audiobooks – when the voice of the narrator doesn’t match up with the voice I had in my head for the author or the characters, it can be so distracting.
Have you ever listened to any of the Yarn Harlot’s books about knitting on audio? One of the things I love about them is that she narrates them herself and her voice sounds exactly, to me at any rate, like what I imagined it would from reading her blog and her books

I am very technologically disadvantaged and my “poor” single child is discovering technology now. He wonders if me and his dad have video-games on our mobile phones…..

I love the colors you’ve chosen for your son’s sweater and it appears to be suitably stripey (I seem to recall that being one of his requirements from an earlier blog post!). Enjoy your audiobook device — I love listening to audiobooks on my iPod.

Ahhh yes I was very excited that I could dust off my old ipod and load audiobooks onto it. May problem is I keep forgetting to charge it lol.
I love those colors! I really need to download some books to my iPod. I usually listen to my knitting podcasts on my iPod so my husband and children don’t roll their eyes at me – they think knitting podcasts may be a bit much, lol.

I love the colours for the sweater! Have fun with your new gadget. Although apprehensive at first, we grown to love our ipods. They have become so handy and useful tools in our family are a plus.

The sweater is lovely. I’ve knitted for years, and have recently (about a month ago) learned to crochet and so my free creative time has been spent perfecting my crochet skills. I’m having a lot of fun.
I’m currently finishing a chunky hat and slipper set that I’ve made for my four-year old nephew.
Yay for audiobooks! They are the best for knitting, but the narrator can really make or break it. Hope you find some better ones.

I have the same problem with movies. Now it’s even worse because some of the books I haven’t read are a movie and so I always have to avoid the commercials and promotions.
Ugh, the voice thing is such a disappointment. That’s why I always borrow from the library!

Congrats on the I-shuffle!! And don’t feel too bad. My director recently went into a store and asked for a cassette player. She’s behind.
