November has been full of fun things. Job turned seven earlier this month amidst several days of celebrating. He opened presents, had a birthday cake that rivaled The Worst Cake Ever, went bowling with all seven of his siblings, and spent an evening fishing with Jonny and some of the other kids. I think it was a very good birthday.
Gabe and Lark got dressed up and went to a dance after many, many months of no dancing, no parties, and well, you know. The dance was outdoors and the weather was unseasonably warm for November. November really has been good to us this year weatherwise.
Jonny and I spent our date night recently visiting our local bookstore after getting dinner out. One thing that has come of this year is a surge in enthusiasm for jigsaw puzzles and the selection at the bookstore has really grown. Isn’t it nice to be able to look forward to something as simple as picking out a new puzzle? After agonizing a bit over which one to bring home, I ended up choosing Bees & Honey. This is one of the most fun puzzles we’ve done! We aren’t quite finished with it and I am dragging my feet on putting the last pieces in. That means that one of the kids will finish it when I’m not looking!
p.s. I’m still knitting on my Heartwood (Giuseppe interferes a lot) and I got Around the World in 80 Trees yesterday. I’ve been wanting this book for a long time so I’m excited!

Beautiful teenagers, beautiful puzzle! What type of cake is that, please?

Your children are so beautiful – lucky mama! I love the pictures of your two who are dressed up for the dance.
I love doing puzzles, but never know where to leave them when they’re in process. My 5 year old is autistic and mouths everything – all of our pieces would be chewed on if I left them out where he could have access to them! Currently I leave all of the pieces on a giant corkboard and hide it under my bed when not in use. Perhaps one day we can have a puzzle table in our schoolroom (dining room) and keep one out all of the time!

I love your jigsaw puzzle. I recently went on a sister trip with my sisters and we did one with cats. We had so much fun working it. I just recently discovered your blog and I am loving it.

We own that exact playmobil pirate set and it’s so much fun. I love playmobil and whenever I browse their collection I want to buy it all. They have a Heidi series (from the book Heidi by Johanna Spyri), which I think your girls would also love, if they are familiar with the book/movie.
Gabe and Larkspur both look so lovely. I really like the longer hair on Gabe and the bow tie is excellent!

This was a beautiful blog post ~ as I have been following you for years, they are all beautiful in their own way. You mentioned a vlog or youtube idea…that would be wonderful!!

Dear Ginny,
the puzzle reminds me of two books by Polish autors Piotr Sorcha and Wojciech Grajkowski: “Bees: A Honeyed History” and “Trees: A Rooted History”. I think you and your family would really enjoy them!
Thank you for your beautiful blog!

We did that one last fall! We have done 3/4 in that series. They are beautiful and challenging! That’s a good price on it!

You have such a beautiful family!! Larkspur and Gabe both look stunning – such beautiful kids. I’m a sucker for a bow tie, but out of my three older boys I can only get my six year old to wear one. Hoping the baby will be a bow tie boy too ?
Happy birthday to Job!! Looks and sounds as if he had a fabulous day!

Thank you for showing your ugly cake, though the magic of blog photos makes me want a clump. I made one for a birthday this year, and everyone ate it up just fine.
It is so lovely and refreshing to see the older ones dressed up and ready to go out and be teenagers and enjoy. It gives me some hope, which our household really needs right now. And both of their effortless glow and the sweetness of not-quite-child-or-grownup makes my heart happy.

I don’t know about that a cake——what’s left looks absolutely delicious and obviously everyone there enjoyed a piece.
I love that jigsaw puzzle—-it’s beautiful. I think bees are just the best things and have embroidered them on various pieces of my clothing as a result.
Kelli Ramey says
Probably breaking protocol, but I am a beekeeper and would trade some honey for some embroidered bees.

Have you watched the film Puzzle? I’m quite sure it’s on Netflix (or Amazon, I forget now), but it’s so lovely. Well worth the few hours.
