~Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me each month and share what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! Post your photo(s) on your blog or on Instagram (#yarnalong) and then share a link below to either your blog or Instagram post!~ (This post contains affiliate links.)
Just a couple of days after posting last month’s Yarn Along, I broke a double point and had to set that pair of stripey socks aside. I haven’t gotten around to buying more needles, so I’ve moved on to other projects. I finished a hat for Job’s birthday over the weekend and I’ll post photos of it soon. Now I am focused on finishing Mabel’s little Puddle Duck. It’s going to be the perfect little sweater for her to wear over dresses this winter.
I’m still reading books for Keats’ and Gabe’s modern literature class. I finished Things Fall Apart and was sorry I couldn’t attend their class discussion on it. I tend to miss the layers and themes in stories and always appreciate listening to other people discuss them. I also read A Farewell to Arms which was horribly sad. I’m not sure whether or not I like Hemingway. I read The Old Man and the Sea in high school but don’t remember it. I read The Sun Also Rises about ten years ago, and don’t remember it either! Recurring theme here. Do you have a favorite Hemingway? Now I’m reading The Maltese Falcon, which I like! It’s a detective story and unlike my typical choices.

Oh I love this! As an avid knitter, I love wool, but I’m still trying to convert my husband

I think I’m making hats for my adult kids, we will see. I’m trying to focus on what I have in my yarn stash instead of buying (not easy since buying is fun). Love the green for your project!

I recently read The Old Man and the Sea and enjoyed it. The first Hemingway I’d read, but I will search out some more from the library.

That little sweater is so sweet! I’ve had it in my favorites forever. And since I don’t have a little girl to knit for it has just sat there. Maybe I’ll make one to sell in the farm store. Hope you’re all doing well 🙂 – Leanne

Oh no! I can’t find where to link up. :-/ Please help.
I’ve read one Hemingway short story, I did NOT like it, and realized during the class discussion that I had missed everything in it. Maybe someday I’ll give him another chance.

Your book choice for this month did seem a bit surprising … forgot about the boys lit class. I love mysteries and film noir, but also find it’s good to get out of my bookish comfort zone every so often, even if I tend to fall right back in it again once I’ve done so. 🙂 Mabel’s sweater is adorable – love the green!

Hi Ginny:
I had to read Hemingway and Steinbeck for my Am. Lit. class at University. I found Hemingway more enjoyable read than Steinbeck — don’t know why. My problem now is that I don’t remember any of the novels/short stories, except that I can vouched the I did read 4 of Hemingway and 2 of Steinbeck.
Right now I’m reading Anne Hillerman’s Leaphorn/Chee mystery novels. I am enjoying them immensely — her descriptive narrative of the American Southwest is beautifully moving.
I am crocheting pet blankets for the family animals as Christmas presents. I hope I can get them all done before Christmas. I’m also working on a cowl for my self. Mable’s puddle duck sweater will look adorable on her !!
Best,
Judith

Hi Ginny,I just love your blog. When I see it in my email, I can’t wait to read it! I love your family too and how you are raising them. I did not homeschool, but was able to be a stay at home Mom for both of my girls through their school years. So very thankful for that! I am retired and a grandmother of four. Being a grandmother is the absolute BEST! At your suggestion, I am listening to the audio book, The Yearling, and I just love it! I’m hoping it’s not sad. The father,
Penny, just got bit with a rattlesnake and I was so afraid he was going to die?. But, Praise the Lord he survived! I just want to thank you for your blog. I know you are very busy, but please don’t stop blogging!! You are a ray of sunshine!! Thank You, Ermetta

My favorite Hemingway is “the Old Man and the Sea” which I don’t remember–this will push me I into re-reading it. It is a short work.
I have been a silent and appreciative reader of yours for several years. I am old (82) with children and grandchildren grown. The family lives in Texas but my husband and I ended by working in Delaware for several years and have stayed on here after retirement.
My knitting has stopped–arthritis, but my hand sewing continues. I make most of my own dresses and smocks and jumpers.
Your life style is much like ours has been. You are a busy and delightful family.

Puddle duck looks like a great sweater!
I know I read A Farewell to Arms in school, but I don’t really remember it, except, indeed, that it was sad. That detective sounds like a lot more fun (I love detectives).

Puddle Jumper has long been on my too knit list. Mabel will wear this with jumper with style.
Hope you are all doing well and adjusting to your new reality of Jonny working out of the home.
