~Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me each month and share what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! I love this little cardigan and have been working on it, at least a few rows, every day. Mabel is happy that I’m knitting something for her.
I’m reading several books, but Hickory was closest when I took my Yarn Along photo yesterday. I read about half of it to my little boys this week and then went on to finish it myself. I have mixed feelings about this book. The illustrations are beautiful but the story that starts out in a lighthearted way turns sad and has an unsatisfying ending in my opinion. I don’t think I’ll finish reading it to my boys.
I’ve gotten into the habit of having a morning read, usually something spiritual, and a bedtime read, usually fiction. My morning read is The Extraordinary parents of St. Therese of Lisieux and I am really enjoying it. After hopping from book to book for my bedtime read, I picked up a Mitford book, A New Song, realizing I need light reading right now. Ironically (given that moving may be on the table for us soon), this one is about Father Tim’s move from the town he’s lived in for many years.

That cardigan is coming along nicely. I am reading “Wives and Daughters” by Elizabeth Gaskell. It is 650 plus pages. It was printed in 1866. Wishing you and your family a safe and HAPPY JULY 4th.

Hi Ginny, Having moved countless times in my childhood and adult life I don’t envy you. We moved to the home we are in now 13 years ago. Not long after we got here I felt like I needed to secure this piece of land, I didn’t want to budge. I was so tired of endless packing…so I planted 25 fruit trees 🙂 It gave me a feeling of permanence and now we reap the benefits of all that fruit!! Having said this, I hear you. There is nothing more emotionally and physically taxing than moving, even the thought of uprooting one’s life is enough to cause me sleepless nights. But I also know sometimes life takes an unexpected course and we just have to go along with it. We mostly moved because of my husbands work, but also once to go to Bible College. That involved leaving our jobs, selling my dream house, and leaving behind a beautifully landscaped garden. At bible college (with 3 children in tow), we lived in a prefab house on asphalt (no garden) for three years. Oh life, ye are full of adventure. God held us in His hand the whole time and He will you and yours too. You’ll be in my prayers. Blessings to you ~ Linda

Love the Mitford series:)! I think I’ve read every last one of them. Current reads:
The Mueller Report
Mr. Know-It-All by Jon Waters
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova (listening in the car)
Also just started City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert and hoping to start the latest in Kate Atkinson’s Jackson Brodie series, Big Sky.
On my desk (I keep imagining somewhat reproachfully) are:
The Bible Challenge: Read the Bible in a Year, Mark P. Zabriskie, ed.
The Power of Myth, Joseph Campbell (I listened to that in the car, so maybe not so much reproach there…) and
The Rule of Benedict by Joan Chittister, O.S.B.
It appears I read like I knit, LOL:)!
My DH and I had six and they are all grown – in fact, our oldest turns 42 on Sunday. I cannot imagine having had yet another. Your blog is the picture of serenity. Please tell me it ain’t always so…. LOL:)

My light novel is KIRKLAND REVELS by Victoria Holy right now – clean, a bit of a mystery and perfect for downtime.

Your sweater is beautiful. I love the pattern in it. I have made a note of that book about St. Therese. It looks like something I would like to read.
