Last week Keats was mowing the grass and uncovered a nest of brand new baby rabbits. This is the second nest we’ve discovered this spring, and sadly, Weasel also found the last one. None of those babies survived his curiosity. There were many tears shed over those babies and Weasel was not a popular dog with my girls for a few days. This new nest is out of his territory, and we have high hopes for these babies. I am able to peek in the nest without disturbing them and plan to document their growth here. I wish we had a video camera we could set up to capture mama bunny. We haven’t seen her at all yet, but know she visits!
We are now through both the spring concert that Keats and Larkspur performed in and our homeschool co-op’s production of Guys and Dolls. Last week was dominated by rehearsals followed by the performance on Saturday. The kids were amazing and the show was hilarious. Between dress rehearsal night and the performance the following day, I took around 3000 photographs. My friend Eve laughed that looking through the 600 photos I ended up keeping from performance night was like looking through one of those flip books. I couldn’t help but take so many. I used my big zoom lens the whole time and got quite the workout! I was sore and exhausted afterward!
Here are a few…
Okay, more than a few, but I’ll spare you from the entire 600. You’ll notice that Keats was NOT excited about this. Gabe was also way outside his comfort zone having never done any acting or singing, but he did great and had such a good attitude about the whole thing. The first two photos were taken on dress rehearsal day, the rest are from the show.

Finally getting a chance this morning to do some catching up on your blog, it’s been awhile. So fun to see what you are all up to. I love the landscaping you did in your yard. Our homeschool co-op just performed a play too and I was so proud of how hard all the kids worked. Yours looked like a lot of fun!
Love to your family!

Oh my goodness I played in the pit orchestra for “Guys and Dolls” back in college! I had completely forgotten until I read this post.

Ohhhh baby bunnies are too, too sweet! I understand your girls’ indignation. As newlyweds on a small college campus our apartment overlooked a large open field. One day I saw crows carrying off tiny bunnies. I ran outside into the field yelling and throwing rocks. Then I noticed the dean of students walking a visiting donor toward our building, watching me warily as if I might turn on them next. Sigh. I quietly went back inside. No explanation was asked or given.

Gorgeous photos Ginny. Gabe really looks the part and looked as though he enjoyed it too. Our oldest son loved doing drama in his very reserved way and never smiled – many years on, he still doesn’t lol! I love how our children are all so different, challenging sometimes but in retrospect great fun. 🙂

Gabe is a very handsome and engaging looking young man! And… could the babies be hares?? They look very long legged for rabbits? And I think hares nest above ground and rabbits in burrows? If they are that’s wonderful to have so close!!

Amazing! I’m so glad I am not the only one who takes photos in the thousands of my kids!

The contrast of Keats and Gabe in that second photo is VERY funny. Thank the Lord for different personality types, it makes the world so much more interesting. Gabe has wonderful expression in the photos-I’m impressed considering no previous experience!

The bunnies are so cute…I’m sure there is some way you can keep your dogs away while still allowing access to the mom..a sort of fence?

Your photos are beautiful! How exciting for all the kids involved in this play. Looks like an amazing production!

Oh that looks like a really special time! I am so glad!

Ah, those end-of-the-year spring recitals and concerts. Sitting through those is what gets parents Purgatory brownie points.
It looks like it was a great show. Gabe looks much more at ease in a suit than Keats does.

Hi Ginny,
Our oldest son never smiled in any pictures after his 2nd or 3rd birthday. We kept telling him someday his wife-to-be would wonder about him….lol. Fast forward to today when we now have numerous photos of him smiling with his wife and their little daughter. So funny how they express their unique personalities.

Oh my goodness! I need to get back into community theater! Love the ladies’ eyebrows and lips! Gabe looks like a natural but poor Keats looks so “put upon” to have to be in the show! Looks like a great production…

Congratulations to your actors, and to you also, Ginny. Your photos are exquisite! They’re beautifully composed, wonderfully sharp, and show so much joy. I really enjoyed seeing them.

Theater is such a great activity for kids (and adults.) Over the many years of teaching I was amazed by the talent I saw in my students. For a while I taught kids who were in band and choir. We were on a bus going from the Henry Ford museum to the tour of the Ford 150 truck plant when one girls sang “The hills are alive with the sound of music” and the whole class joined her. I was sitting next to amazed strangers and I said, “I try to keep them from doing this!” They laughed.

That second picture of your two sons made me literally laugh out loud! I just think their expressions are hysterical. Thank you for all of these beautiful photos and what wonderful, blessed events, including the bunnies but so sad about those that did not survive. It’s heartwarming for me to read your words and realize that our life years ago with younger children was much the same. Enjoy them and these years as they are fleeting. ❤️

wow ! If the production was as fabulous as the costumes and pics are , it must have been delightful ! What fun for all. A LOT of hard work must have gone into it. Congratulations to them.
Sorry for your 1st little bunnies but hopefully the new ones will grow and prosper. Love your posts.

Ginny, what a week to be a proud mother with the concert and the show. I love the joy in life that you’ve captured here and appreciate so much that you share it with us. Yes, you can see that Keats wasn’t too into the show but your young men sure suit those suits. As for Gabe, well, he looks as though he had a great time. I hope this week isn’t too quiet for everyone after all the excitement.
Helen says
Boy, I was singing along with your pictures. Looks like they did a great performance!

Guys and Dolls looked FANASTIC! What great pictures and the show, I would have loved to seen. Hope those bunnies make it, sometimes the silly dogs do not realize that are destroying a live animal. Hope Weasel gets out of the ‘dog house’ soon and stays out.
