~Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me each month and share what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! For the first time in a few days, I sat down last night and knit a few rounds on my South Bay Sweater. I’m really excited about this project! It is going pretty quickly and it feels good to be getting prepared for next winter.
I’m reading China Court, by Rumor Godden, one of my favorite authors. If you haven’t read anything by her, try In This House of Brede, Five for Sorrow Ten for Joy, or An Episode of Sparrows. China Court seems to have a different style than those books, but I am enjoying it nonetheless. It’s a nice quiet read.

_Thursday’s Children_ is very good also. xo

How did I not know that Godden wrote books for grownups?? We love her children’s books, especially The Mousewife. Must head off and get a copy of the House of Brede now….

China Court was my introduction to Rumer Godden and I’ve returned to it again and again. My copy had the family tree on the end papers, so I didn’t mind the story skipping backwards and forwards. Just the mention of the book and I can feel the yearning of Ripsie and the frustration of Eliza, but most of all the wonderful descriptions of the house and the gardens and all the tasks of the householder. I’m going to dig out my copy for another read!

I’m reading Two Under the Indian Sun right now by Godden(and her sister). I’ve liked many of her works except Coromandel Sea Change (maybe too edgy for me ? ). I am eager to know your final verdict on China Court. It really seems like we have similar taste in books, which is exciting to me since I’m not always sure who to turn to for book recommendations.
Ginny says
So far, I am not liking it as much as her others that I have read. It has a confusing way of jumping between past and present, but I am going to keep reading it, because it’s easy and pleasant and I want to give it a proper chance.

In This House of Brede is in my top two all time favorite books. I reread it often. 🙂 Thank you, you have encouraged me to find some new Rumor Godden books to retrieve from the library! Are you enjoying China Court?
God bless you,
Michele

I am, but not as much as her others that I have read. The style is a little confusing. I’m going to keep going with it, and see what happens…

That looks like a great sweater! Love the color you choose.
I never heard of Rumor Godden, I’ll add her books to my list, they sound interesting.

Definitely check out In This House of Brede first! I think it’s her most loved book.
