My big back to school plan was to start school with my younger kids last week, and then add my high school boys (three of them this year!) this week. Then I realized that I had failed to order all of one boy’s books and hadn’t quite ironed out the details for the other two. So… high school starts next week. In the meantime, I am feeling very successful with the others. I told Jonny so this evening and he just laughed. The way I was talking, I guess it sounded like we were at the end of a highly productive school year, rather than mid week two, with three kids not even started. Even so, I am very optimistic. Everything is feeling good right this second. I have a decent rhythm going with my younger kids. I am consistently able to get up before everyone else and that makes such a difference. I am feeling healthy and able to manage things rather than caving to overwhelm (with the exception of that moment on Monday morning when I realized that there was no way high school was starting this week.) We are close to having all of our house selling and buying sorted out. I am just so, so grateful. Life is good!
I am lugging around my gigantic Find Your Fade shawl and managing to squeeze in a row here and there throughout our school days. I have a new little reader this year: Silas! We’re sticking with our tried and true All About Reading, and I’m so excited to hear him sounding out those little three letter words. Years from now, I’ll look back on my homeschooling years and I’m sure one of my sweetest memories will be knitting along to my children reading All About Reading fluency sheets. (We have always combined those pages with fun rainbow pencils. My kids underline as they read.)
A neighbor of ours allowed us to pick apples at his house earlier this week instructing us to leave a bag for him and to throw a few to his horses. We picked several bags for ourselves and have been cooking sliced apples with butter and cinnamon every day since. Between all those apples, and our new homeschooling rhythm, I am feeling very Septemberish and I like it very much.
p.s. Thank you for all the orders from our shop last week! I got everything packaged up and all went out in Tuesday’s mail. There are a few skeins of yarn left if you missed the update. 🙂
