We’ve had such a week! We said our official goodbyes to our old house while carrying boxes over the threshold for the folks who will take ownership sometime in September. I burst into embarrassing ugly tears while explaining to them how to arrange the shower curtains around the claw foot tub, and have been a bit of an unpredictable mess ever since. There’s no controlling these emotions of mine, but as I have explained to my kids time and time again, I don’t let them control me. (Okay, I try!)
“Changes ain’t totally pleasant but they’re excellent things.” -L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Avonlea
I started school this week with my younger children (high schoolers next week!) and was reminded of how much we needed more space, which we have here both inside and out. Right now my favorite parts of the day are both working around the table and taking long walks outdoors. I had forgotten how much knitting I can accomplish during a school day! I knit while the girls work on math, and while Beatrix reads to me. In addition to knitting, I finally sewed buttons on Mabel’s Fairy Dust Cardigan. (And just so you don’t get the wrong idea, it’s so hard to get Silas to sit still for his little bit of 1st grade work that not a bit of crafty anything happens while I work with him. It’s just lots of deep breaths on my part there.)
My favorite yarn right now is the American sport weight wool that I knit Mabel’s little cardigan in, and I am planning another for her now, this time long sleeved and probably that lovely, deep olive green I get using goldenrod flowers and a bit of iron. I can’t get enough of this yarn! It has such character, I just love it so much! I dyed some of it for our shop (I always use natural dyes), and I listed it along with lots of other wonderful things: Jonny’s handmade cutting boards, hand crafted goat milk soap, naturally dyed playsilks, stitch markers, and more yarn! I hope you check it out and find something you love!
p.s. If you missed out on the first batch of cutting boards, I listed a few more on Friday afternoon!

Is there still a chance to buy shark teeth on Etsy?
Thank you.

What pattern did you use for Mabel’s dress? I have a daughter just about the same age and would love to make her some simple play dresses!

I love the colors of your wool. And the picture of your husband’s hands tying the cord on the cutting boards is so beautiful. I am reminded of “O Lord, bless the work of our hands.”

The purple…then the yellow….and then the blues! I am such a yarn wh0re! How can you stand to sell any of it?!?!?!?! I would just stack it up and stare at it, then start a project with every single color (and never get around to finishing any of them!). Working on dishcloths and market bags for the church bazaar right now using box store brands, but I’m still in love with your magnificent colors!

Beautiful pictures! So glad you have a wonderful new home to comfort you in the process of saying goodbye to your old home! My son and I just finished listening to Anne of Avonlea on audio book in the car; I hadn’t read the series since I was a child.

That photo of Anne of Avonlea surrounded by yarn and garden goodies is just lovely; I think it may be one of my favorites of yours, actually.
It’s hard to say good-bye to a home you’ve lived in and loved, even if the change is ultimately a good thing. *hugs*
