Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me every Wednesday to share a single photo of what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! Share your photo on your blog, on Instagram (#yarnalong), or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us!~

My knitting and reading got totally derailed this week.  I had to file for a two-week extension on Beatrix’s sweater, and thankfully, it was approved. I cast on a baby hat at the urgent request of a good friend (more on that later) and I’m hoping to finish that up today.  My friend, Ann, sent me a copy of her new book, The Broken Way, and I couldn’t help but start reading it.  I skipped ahead a bit, and saw that our Elizabeth Dehority is part of her story. My heart skipped a beat when I saw Larkspur’s name in her pages, and there is a tiny piece of me there as well.  I’m so happy to finally have this book in my hands.  I want to read it slowly, reliving the hard days and the best days, hoping that both will change me for the better.

I saved your post a while back on your girls’ bedroom update because I knew I would soon be in a new home in need of lots of paint (not mention heat, hot water, and a roof….). I picked a Benjamin Moore’s Gray Owl (one of three grays I approved from a decorating post on various grays, and the only one available in a paint chip when I went to the store) for the entire house, figuring I can decorate and personalize on top of that, but knew I wanted a pink for my own girls’ room. I can’t stand for too much pink, though. Did not have time to pick out paint chips or even look around online. Just referred to your post, ordered the same color, and finished the walls yesterday. I’m totally in love! It’s the perfect pink! Delicate, light, girly, without being at all too much pink! Thanks for sharing your redo!!!

I feel the same way about pink, but love that particular pink so much that I almost want to paint my own bedroom that color! How do you like the Gray Owl gray? I will be doing some painting this winter, and want a good gray that is just gray–not purple gray, or blue gray, or green gray.

It’s definitely a blue gray. Depending on the lighting and time day it can be gray, blue, or somewhere in between. It works for me, but not if you want a true gray. The reviews I saw after starting with it mentioned that it can tend to pick up the colors around it, including blue and green.

I read One Thousand Gifts and cried my eyes out and bought a copy that sits in my bedside drawer. I am not Christian but her words are still powerful for me – we are all one. I am looking forward to reading her new one. What a treat that you are friends! ❤

I love that you “filed for an extension” on your daughter’s sweater!! 🙂
I’ve got Ann’s new book on my birthday list, and I’m really hoping I find it all wrapped up for me when I open packages later this week. Have a good week, Ginny.

OH I love Ann Voskamp! Sometimes our knitting has to go on the back shelf for a great read! 🙂 I’m trying to do better about balancing the two. My knitting is picking up. Must be the change in the weather. 😉

OH I cannot wait to read Ann’s latest book. I am saving my pennies. She is the reason I found YOUR blog a few years ago, which is now my favorite, and which helped lead me on in my own knitting journey. How fun to have the added bonus of looking for hints of you in her book!

Phew! I can hear the relief about the extension, what a lovely patient girl she’s being.

Oh, how sweet to have a bit of you and Larkspur and your friend, in Ann’s book. Touchstones of remembrance. This phrase has come to mean a lot to me and having touchstones of my own means a world to me.

I love that you have a two week extension, you work for some pretty swell people. I’m knitting another baby sweater too! however, I’m knitting with wool/acrylic blend and that is taking some of the fun out of the knitting.
