~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me every Wednesday to share a single photo of what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! Share your photo on your blog, on Instagram (#yarnalong), or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us!~
I’m almost finished with the little hat I’m knitting for Beatrix from some of my indigo dyed yarn.ย I made up the pattern as I went, and I think it worked out, though I won’t know for sure until I work the decreases.
I bought a copy of The Shepherd’s Life: Modern Dispatches from an Ancient Landscape for Jonny and me for Christmas, and I’ve been reading it, and liking it thus far. But for some reason, I decided that I needed to pull My Antonia of the shelf the other night, and I am spending more time reading it (for the third time I think). My Antonia is my favorite book by Willa Cather, who is probably my favorite author. I just love it. If you haven’t read it, and you are making a 2016 reading list, you should add it to your list!
Best wishes to you all in the new year!! I hope it’s full of knitting and good books (and lots of other good things as well, of course!)

Oh I love The Shepherds Life. That family are from the Lake District where I’m from. I just bought some Herdwick fleece from them before the book came out and they’re amazed at how successful their book is!

Such pretty yarn! I read “My Antonia” in middle school and hated it. I’d like to read it again, though. Luckily my reading tastes have changed a lot since 7th grade! ๐ I think sometimes the subtleties of required school reading are over most kids’ heads. I read Margaret Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” in high school and also hated it, but I know if I read it now as an adult, I’d see it in a whole new light. (It’s on my to-do list, along with “My Antonia.”)

I have lived in Nebraska for most of my adult life and read My Antonia for the first time last year. Loved it and since have read three more of her books. After I read My Antonia, I wondered what took me so long to read something by this wonderful Nebraska author.
Your blog is so fun to read and I enjoy all the updates on the kiddos and the critters. I live on an acreage also and enjoy the out-of-town life.

I feel the same way about My Antonia.
Beatrix little hat will be cute!

I live in Nebraska where Willa Cather was born and lived! There are so many things to see and do pertaining to her in the town she grew up – she was a very talented woman and lived a very interesting life. And she’s one of my favorite authors, too. Happy knitting … and reading!

I read My Antonia some years ago, I really enjoyed it. I enjoy American fiction, I must read more by Willa Cather.

Happy New Year to you and your lovely family! Love the blue color! And Shepherd’s Life has been on my reading list for so long!

I read My Antonia as assigned reading in eighth grade and hated it. Your high opinion of Willa Cather has convinced me that I need to to add it to my book list for the coming year and give it another chance as an adult. I have a feeling I was too young or not in the right place for reading it! Lovely yarn!

I read My Antonia years ago. It is my favorite Willa Cather book also. I hope your hat works out.

Wishing you and your family a happy new year. Thanks for your beautiful photos and words throughout the year, and allowing us in to see some small pieces of your family’s life. (And I hope it’s okay to also wish you a happy birthday – today is my birthday too – 38 – which is why I remember. ๐ )
