Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me every Wednesday to share a single photo of what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! Share your photo on your blog, on Instagram (#yarnalong), or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us!~

I started reading The Blue Castle a few days ago, one of the recommendations from The Happy Reading List.  It is quite good!  Jonny saw the cover and asked, “What ARE you reading?  Some kind of romance novel?”  Yeah, I guess so.  But a nice one.

I meant to get back to the sleeves on my Barn Sweater this week, but can’t decide if I want to knit them flat, per the pattern instructions, or in the round.  Will they sit more nicely if I knit them flat and then seam them?  I have no experience with seaming.  In the meantime, I’ve started on a pair of legwarmers.  I’ve had the yarn for this project for some time, and was ready to start something new.

For those of you celebrating tomorrow, Happy Thanksgiving!

I LOVE The Blue Castle! That and Kilmenny Of The Orchard! I never had a daughter but I thought about using Kilmenny if I did. So much fun. I want leg-warmers….maybe I should try to knit a pair myself!

I knit the sleeves of my barn sweater in the round. They worked perfectly. First on a 16″, and then on dpns. I got done that much sooner, not having to turn the work or sew up the ends.

after visiting Bala , Ontario,I finally read The Blue Castle which was apparently written after an inspiring summer holiday in Bala. Right now I am reading a biography of LM Montgomery.I have had to put it down for a few days. I have read her journals and several biographies and love her books. What unhappy minds creative people often have. We who enjoy their works whether it be writing, knitting, art, cooking are so appreciative that you all share your talents with us, despite the cost to yourself. I get such pleasure from reading so many creative blogs every morning. Be at peace with your world . Happy Thanksgiving.

I have recently finished a vest for my MIL, knit flat and seamed together. I was really nervous about it as I have only knit in the round and have only been knitting for a couple of years. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the seaming turned out. Just from looking at the outside of the body, you can’t tell that it’s seamed. No idea, though, how it works with sleeves…

I’m sure you’ll do a beautiful job either way. Personally, I would probably decide based on my current level of sleep deprivation / brain fog. ; )

I love both the colour and design of your new leg-warmers – I’m sure they will be both beautiful and cosy.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Beautiful stitch on the legwarmers! I used the same yarn (same color, too) to crochet a scarf earlier this year. I really enjoyed working with it and the blue is yummy. You can see it on Ravelry if you’re interested 🙂

The Blue Castle is my favorite LM Montgomery discovery from The Happy Book List, with Jane of Lantern Hill being a close second. So glad I still have more LMMs to read! Great book/yarn match, and have a happy Thanksgiving!

Love all of LM Montgomery’s books (and there are lots of them, not just Anne). Knit the sleeves in the round. Don’t waste your time with seams if you don’t have too 🙂

Your legwarmers are going to be lovely! And kudos on matching your yarn color to your book! 😉 I hate seaming too and I’ve stayed away from bigger projects that require it. I’m just really awful at it, and I can’t stand the thought of spending all that time working on a sweater or something only to have it sloppily finished. (Although obviously I’ll never get better at it with that mentality!)

I so prefer knitting in the round that I would find a way to make that work if I could. I haven’t knit that pattern though so maybe there is something tricky about it that I don’t know. Lovely color for your leg warmers!

I love the Blue Castle. The happy book list has provided me with so much reading this year. My favorites from it so far have been “Mother Mason” and “Where Lilacs Still Bloom.” Also, will you be doing a gift list post this year? Everything I bought on your list from last year is in constant use. We don’t buy a lot and try to get things that last for years and it is always to have your review or suggestions of what has worked in your multi-age household.

Love your leg warmers. I have always wondered if I would like a pair. The pattern looks great, I may have to give it a go.

you could knit them in the round on 16 inch needles until the wrist. I have also knit them flat and seamed. A third idea is using two circs and place the edges toward the under arm so that if there is a ladder it will not be seen. I personally try not to sew anything if I can get away with it. If your yarn is 100% wool whatever you do it will look fine. if there is any silk or cotton then flat might be best.

love how your knitting matches your book 🙂
