Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me every Wednesday to share a single photo of what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! Share your photo on your blog, on Instagram (#yarnalong), or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

I have just divided for the sleeves on my barn sweater.  I love that part of knitting sweaters, when the rows get shorter!

I have also just started reading Go Set a Watchman, and I am very happy about that.  I haven’t read any reviews, nothing at all, and I don’t want to know!  I can see by the star ratings on Amazon that not everyone loves it, and I am aware that there is some controversy surrounding its publication.  I am okay with that.  I still want to read it.  So you guys, go ahead and get your copy and we’ll discuss it soon even if we hate it!  Maybe we’ll have one of those Facebook parties?

Also, you know I love it when my knitting matches my book.  I’m pretty pleased all around this week!

Nice answer back in return of this question with firm
arguments and explaining the whole thing concerning that.

The reimagined Atticus in TKM is ‘my’ Atticus and I can’t quite bring myself to read Lee’s earlier book with its apparently less sympathetic version of him. I’ll be interested to discover what you all think of it though.

One of the favorite books of my eldest daughter’s is “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Last Christmas we bought her Harper Lee’s biography “The Mockingbird Next Door.” When she heard Harper Lee was coming out with another book, she pre-ordered a copy for herself and the family. Three of us are reading it right now. My daughter has already pointed out discrepancies between TKM and GSW – for instance, in TKM there were no children on Scout and Jem’s street (except Dill in the summers), but in GSW, young Henry/Hank is taken in by a neighbor. I’m not quite sure I like 26-year-old Jean Louise. There was something engaging about the 6yo sassy tomboy, but it’s a little crude in young woman. I guess the adult Jean Louise is not surprising, given her background and undisciplined upbringing. I also miss Jem – a little startling that he just dropped dead. Anyway, we’ll see who in our family finishes first. I know it won’t be as good as TKM, but I’m not expecting it to be. Afterall, she wrote GSW before TKM and she did not revise or rewrite it after the success of TKM

I’m really going back and forth about the book. I can’t wait to know what you think!

I’d be up for a group discussion. I’m just a few chapters in, but like you, even if it’s awful or controversial, we’re all going to enjoy reading it regardless :-).

I love the idea of a book discussion. I’m buying my copy today at the bookstore. I want to reread To Kill a Mockingbird, too, as its been so long since I read it.

I finished it yesterday, but I will refrain from saying anything! 🙂 I might actually read it again today because I know I missed things in my hurry to find out WHAT HAPPENS.

Im going to read it again as soon as my mom is done with it- I also rushed through it!!! It was so emotional for me to read as TKM is so sentimental to me. Cant wait for any discussion 🙂

I would love to know if you have any tips for dividing the yarn for sleeves. It’s my least favorite part — because I love those increases — but also because I dread going back and trying to fix those gaps that inevitably show up even after I have finished the sleeves. I just ripped back an entire baby sweater from the several inches below the divide because I could see the gaps and I couldn’t stand it.

Glad you are reading the book. I’ve head negative reviews so I will wait to see what you think. I love your pictures and your blog. Would you tell us what lenses are your favorite to shoot with sometime. Your pictures are great and taking pictures of kids can be tough. Love your blog.

I love that part too! It is like a little reward when you finally separate for the sleeves.

I am truly curious about that book, but afraid too.

I’m very curious to know your opinions of this book. Here in Germany I can’t get yet the german version – and I’ve just decided to read both books: killing the mocking bird (never read before) & go set a watchman

I had just come in from getting home from work…my husband was out mowing the pasture so I turned on the TV while doing some cleaning/laundry on Monday evening. I was so surprised to see the picture of the book you had just been talking about reading on one of the network news programs. I’ll be interested to hear your take on the book, since I wasn’t in the living room to hear much about it. Love that your barn sweater is getting done. It’s so beautiful. I must have missed what you were knitting at your getaway…a hat? It’s been really hot here in Iowa. We sleep on the top floor and the grandkids keep opening our bedroom door during the day so all the heat comes up. We’ve been trying to sleep when it’s 83 upstairs. Came home again last night and they had been messing around and had the door open AGAIN. It makes we smile thinking of them playing up there but grandpa wasn’t as happy. I went around on the first floor and closed all the air vents so it would force the AC upstairs. We slept in a cool 77 room last night.
