Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me every Wednesday to share a single photo of what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! Share your photo on your blog, on Instagram (#yarnalong), or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

Yarn Along (1 of 1)

Last week I finished knitting my Tales from the Isle of Purbeck shawl, and have been working a little here and there on my Grey Goose Shawl since.  I finished reading Orphan Train (loved it) and remembered that I am still in the middle of My Family and Other Animals, so I have been reading that one again.  It’s not a page-turner, but a pretty delightful book, nonetheless.

Thank you for reminding me about this book! I started reading it several summers ago, but for some reason (I can’t remember now), I had never finished. I did love it though, a perfect summer book. I think I’ll read it again from the beginning.

Your gray goose is so pretty but then all your shawls turn out beautiful! I might need to look up Orphan Train, if you and Karen both liked it!

Beautiful yarn for that shawl and of course your stitches are always perfect! I just started reading a chapter a night from the Little House on the Prairie series to my grandchildren that are 2, 4 and 5. They have been very attentive. The first book of course has all these little side stories within the chapter and are usually something scary, which the kids love. We just finished the chapter on “Sunday’s” where they talk about how strict they were in the old days and the kids couldn’t laugh or have any fun. I also had to explain to them what “taking them to the woodshed” meant. Pa talks about his Grandpa and his brothers as a little boy riding the sled past his house (on a Sunday while his father was sleeping) when they end up having a pig get on the sled with them when it wouldn’t get out of the way and squealing all the way down the hill. My grandkids decided they were going to pick things outside (rhubarb, onions, apples – not yet ready) yesterday. Grandpa found the remains when he was mowing last night. Ha ha.

I remember reading Durrell’s ‘My Family and Other Animals’ at school. A gentle book and a delightful one.

I read the book Orphan Train Rider: One Boy’s True Story with my kids this past year. Not sure if you’ve checked that book out, but it’s a quick & very informative nonfiction read for kids.

Wish I could get into the groove of shawl-knitting. You always look so cozy & happy in your shawls.
