~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me every Wednesday to share a single photo of what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! Share your photo on your blog, on Instagram (#yarnalong), or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
I haven’t done much reading this week, but the few pages I have read were from My Family and Other Animals, which I am really enjoying. I think I’m a little wacky in that while people talk about summer reading, and knitting when the weather is cool, I do kind of the opposite. Well, I think I probably knit at about the same rate all year long, but I don’t think I read as much in the summer. There is just too much to do when the weather is warm!
I swatched last night for the Tales from the Isle of Purbeck mystery knit along, and I am so excited about the first clue being released today! I am knitting it in Hole & Sons wool, making this knit along feel super special. With each installment of the pattern, Ben, the farmer behind Hole & Sons wool will be adding his own tales about his farm! It’s going to be full immersion knitting. (The latest batch of Hole & Sons wool sold out very quickly, but if you are interested in joining this MKAL, there are lots of great alternative yarns that are very much in the spirit of this project. You can find some ideas in this thread in the by Annie Claire Ravelry group.)

What is a mystery knit along? Sounds like fun but I have no idea what it is. I have such bad lighting at night that it is much better to knit in natural daylight but……not a good habit. Too much other things to do that NEED to get done now…veggie garden, eldercare, etc. But knitting is a nice break. I have to pull myself away.

I really enjoyed the book you’re reading – and may I recommend Our Hearts were Young and Gay, by Cornelia Otis Skinner and Emily Kimbrough. If you like this one, you should like the other. Both had me laughing out loud at certain points, which is always a good thing!

Hi Ginny, I’m joining in with your Yarn Along for the first time today. I’m starting up in time for summer; I think it will help keep me focused. I’ll probably want to keep going after that too. 🙂 Thanks for the link up, I enjoy going through the posts every week and I’m happy to have joined. 🙂

Yikes! That sounds like fun and I have the perfect yarn for it (I think) . Not only single batch, but single sheep! And the book sounds great too. A win-win :-D. Thanks!!!

OK. You talked me into joining the Mystery KAL. Sounds like you were so fortunate to get some yarn and it’s beautiful. I’ve e-mailed Hole and Sons to see if I can prepurchase for their next batch, but we’ll see what they say. I’ve received my first set of instructions, but at least I know you’ll be able to help if I get stuck. Love your new fencing by the way! Hope you enjoy the Memorial weekend. I know I’m planning on doing some knitting!

I loved the book that you’re reading!
I was always a knit-and-read-in-winter kind of girl, until now. My schedule seems to have calmed down a bit, and my garden is better-behaved than in years past–allowing for a little more reading time. And since this year we are expecting our first grandchild in November, I’ll be knitting all summer!

So many gorgeous projects!

I knit as much as I can to practice as much as I can. I would like to get to some sewing projects but since I still work outside the home I don’t have time to do it all! 🙂
I read when I’m away from home, on my kindle. I tend to mess up my knitting if I haul it around with me. Summer is hard for me too because there is so much outside work to be done. My garden is in terrible need of weeding. I will get to that this Memorial weekend though. 🙂 HOpe you have a wonderful week! (what’s left of it)

I crochet most of the time but tend to read more in the winter, the warmer months spent outside in the garden. Thank you so much for hosting the yarn along.

Lovely yarn. Warm summer days make me want to be lazy and just read but I agree there is so much to do. I dont want to miss a minute of it.

I knit year round, regardless of the weather, but I will admit that now I am only knitting at night since the days are full.
Love your yarn!
