Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading (though not at the same time!), and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

Yarn Along-3442

Last week, I was working on my mitts when a friend’s preteen daughter asked me, “What are you knitting?” followed by, “Do you like that color?”  I told her that yes, I did.  I don’t think she would have said anything else, good manners and all, but I prompted her with, “You don’t like it, do you?”  She replied that it reminded her too much of her baby brother’s dirty diapers.  Yes, I guess so, though I hadn’t considered it.  I really like the color, but then, I’m not really phased by poop.

I’m nearing the end of I Am One of You Forever, while mixing in stories from Sylvia’s Farm, and lots of Goat reading.  Natural Goat Care was recommended last week, and I bought it right away.  Even my kids are reading up on goats these days.  The whole family is completely smitten!

Dear Heart. I have read your blog from day one. I’m a fan. I never comment. But I can contain myself no longer. Please pardon me.

I frequently write late at night when I am tired. If I have the opportunity to write during the day, I am interrupted repeatedly. As far as this blog is concerned, I don’t have the benefit of an editor. I make grammatical and spelling errors sometimes, and I’m okay with that. And my goodness, this post is from 2015!

A friend of my husband once winced when he heard me order guacamole and assured me that once I had changed a few baby diapers I would never order it again. He was wrong – you cannot take my avocado from me!

I like the color of your mitts. I always like colors that other people aren’t very fond of. Once I pointed out a favorite shade of green and someone said “you like puke green?!” Ha! 🙂

I remember how hard it was to pull ourselves away from being with the baby goats too. We wanted to be with them all the time. So much fun.

You will love having goats. They are so endearing. We raised dairy goats for about 20 years while the boys were growing up, Nubians, and then Saanens (much quieter). If you haven’t already found it http://www.fiascofarms.com has tons of information, from raising babies, to cheese making.

Now that you mention it…. but it is a lovely pattern. I can always rely on my husband’s honest opinion about colors and fabrics. I recently picked up at a thrift store a few yards of silky, patterned fabric that I thought could replace the boring black fabric that curtains our bedroom closet. When I held it up, trying it out, my husband said he didn’t like it – it looked like something you might see in a brothel! I quickly pulled it down and it’s in a crumpled pile on the floor. Of course, my husband’s “favorite” brown-colored, sticky-consistency comparison is “meconium.”

Thanks for the giggle this morning over the poop colored mittens! I must say though, they are beautiful :-). Also, meant to comment yesterday that the cowl you made is gorgeous. I, like you, tend to choose neutral colored yarn, but when I see things like that cowl I always think to myself that I really should branch out!

I haven’t started my mittens yet… too much going on in life with too many things hanging out there. I love yours and the color is one of my favorites! 🙂

    Hi Miss Ginny –
miss you already – That is such a cool new color for your mittens, but hilarious how it is the same color of a past experience. Out of the mouth of babes. Oh dear!
    Love you girl

Hasn’t poop been an integral part of your life for, like, 15 years or more. Cat poop, dog poop, baby poop, and now goat poop.

Somehow I missed the step between talking everybody’s ears off about goats and goin’ to get the goats. Why did it not phase me at all, though?

Too funny. My kids are enjoying all your goat-y escapades. Back when we lived in a barn (really!) our next door neighbor the next acre over had goats and the children loved going to visit them. Now that we are in urbanity we don’t get to see any farm animals much. They all ooohed and aaahed when I showed them your post the other day. 🙂

Your mitts are turning out beautiful. I knit some mittens for my 27 year old daughter a few years ago and the color was similar. She told me the color was coming back in style. She’s my Mary Tyler Moore daughter that lives in the big city of St. Paul, so it didn’t surprise me that she said that. Her old college friends are into knitting and she’s always telling me the new things they are doing. Ginny, you’d fit right in with them!
