Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading (though not at the same time!), and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

Only a few more rows, and I will be ready to bind off my Simmer Dim shawl, but they are long rows!  I’ve actually been more in the mood for reading this week, I think because I am loving Shadows on the Rock so much.  This is definitely one of my favorite Cather novels.  I’ve tried to talk to Seth about it, since he read it for history class a couple months ago, but he claims that nothing happens in it.  Amazing how age changes your perception so much.  I don’t think I would have enjoyed it as a teenager either.  The book that all my kids are loving right now is Good Old Boy.  It is about the author’s childhood, growing up in the south in the years after World War II.  A couple of my older boys have read it to themselves, and now Jonny is reading it aloud to the rest of the kids.  I asked Seth why they all love it so much and he told me that kids always love books about other kids being naughty.  Ha!  So true!

    Ginny,
Reading about other kids being naughty is really enjoyable! 🙂 I highly recommend: ‘Little Heathens: Hard Times and High Spirits on an Iowa Farm during The Great Depression.’ My grandma first recommended it to me. It’s funny and a pretty lighthearted read. I really enjoyed it.

    Love,
    Taryn

I love that color! Have you guys ever read Sterling North’s book, Rascal? I loved it as a kid and still enjoy reading it every now and then. It’s set in the 1920s (I think), they talk about the spanish influenza pandemic. After reading it as a child, I dreamed about having a raccoon as a pet. Great book.

I love the colour of your shawl. I bet it’s going to look amazing. It will be worth it once you’ve finished. Sorry I’ve been away for so long. I’m getting back into things now :-).

Shadows on the Rock sounds like a book I’d like to read – I’m going to see if the library has it. And I think Seth is right – I do remember loving books where kids are naughty as a child. I was always afraid to be naughty so reading about children that were was somehow adventurous and brave to me. 🙂
Loving the colour of blue for your shawl!
