~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
Regarding my Jet Stream shawl, I believe that I am currently deep inside what is known as a knitting black hole. It may be awhile before I emerge.
I am happily distracted right now by a funny book that my sister recently sent me, Walking Across Egypt. The main character, an elderly woman named Mattie, who is “slowing down,” is hilariously delightful. I nearly died laughing in the opening chapter as she worried over what the neighbors would think were they to discover that rather than wash her dishes directly after lunch, she first watches “All My Children.” I won’t ruin the story by telling you just how far she goes to prove how worried she is about that fact, in case some of you decide to read it. I’m not embarrassed to admit that I grew up on “All My Children,” as did my mother before me. Folding laundry while watching it with her will always be one of my favorite childhood memories.

Requested this book from the library after reading your post. It is so fun and so easy to get into. The pages go quickly! Thank you for the suggestion. Reading this book in between knitting a plummy colored prayer shawl done (Cast on 57 stitches on size 10, 11, 12, 13 or any size needles, any yarn and knit three, purl three each row.) I love this pattern. I have made several shawls/throws and have a list of many more to make. Birthdays and Christmas are coming quickly. This cast on can be more or less, but needs to be odd for the pattern to work.

We just had Mary Fickett’s son and daughter-in-law and family here for a mini family reunion. She played Ruth Martin years ago. She has since passed away. My husband is a cousin. I never watched AMC…but did watch As the World Turns and General Hospital.
Joe has another cousin who was a Dr. on one of the soaps…John McMartin.

Hi Ginny! I published a paragraph long review of the “Sabbath as Resistance” book on my link in today in case you are curious about the book. Fruit flies in the van? yes, all the time! I hate that.

This may be a stupid question, but is it okay to link up to this if the book we’re “reading” is an audiobook? I ask because I’m still a beginning-to-intermediate knitter who can’t quite look away from her projects while she’s knitting, so I switch to audiobooks when I’m working on my knitting instead of a paper-and-spine book. I’d love to participate, though!

Being from the UK, All My Children doesn’t mean all that much to me, but rest assured we do how our equivalent. lol I am crocheting a bed blanket that feels a bit like your shawl, a crochet black hole.

My grandmother, who lived with us when I was growing up was a faithful viewer of “All My Children” and “As the World Turns”. When I was home from school I watched them also. I may have to recommend this book to my mother. I think she might enjoy it.

I have to say I enjoy all the ABC soaps…All My Children wasn’t the most watched for me though, because of when it was on and when I got home from school. One Life to Live and General Hospital…yes…my babysitter hooked me on those when I was quite young. My Nana (at 95) still watches GH every day…the others are unfortunately in an online zone my Nana is unable to visit 🙂

For me it was Days of Our Lives. My grandmother watched it on Thursdays, which were her days off. I grew up without a tv, but I spent many Thursday afternoons at my grandmothers watching with her after lunch. 🙂 Good luck escaping your black hole!

I will be reading that book next Ginny, thanks for sharing. Sisters are great aren’t they?
PS- My mama didn’t watch soaps, but my Nanny always watched As the World Turns and we would watch it every summer when we would visit.
