Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

20140527-DSC_9655It was definitely a back and forth stockinette kind of week.  I’ve been busy with other things, and couldn’t focus on any more complicated knitting.  The body of Bea’s Leksak is almost finished!

To be honest I’m reading five or so different books right now.  I’m not doing a great job of staying focused.  I have been enjoying reading The Orchard Mason Bee and find myself extremely interested in these little native pollinators.

    Ginny,
Mason bees are sort of a new obsession for Jeff and I this year. We just started raising them this spring for the first time and we love learning about them. I should look for that book at our library. A website I’ve really been liking for learning about mason bees is: http://www.crownbees.com
I think they are fascinating and I love that they are such good pollinators.

    Love,
    Taryn

That pattern is just adorable and totally look like something I would imagine your girls to wear! As always, yarn along keeps me inspired! I really need a stockinette project soon, I think – something to pick up mindlessly as the weather turns my attention outdoors so completely!

Ginny have you seen this bee site: http://www.fortheloveofbees.com/ and heard about topbar hives as an alternative to the traditional Langstroth hives? Les Crowder gave a talk in our town last week about his 30 years of working with bees. It was fascinating, even though I have no experience with beekeeping. One of the most memorably things he said (at least to me) was that it was often better to raise bees in the city rather than farm country because of the heavy pesticide and herbicide use in the latter.

We’ve been making little mason bee houses (out of spare wood) for a few years now. Fascinating to watch them! Thanks for the book recommendation!

Bea is going to be thrilled to receive a new hand knit from you. I find stockinette stitch to be a wonderful companion to tv knitting 🙂
