Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

20140422-DSC_4959My knitting sure does seem to be looking the same, week after week.  I’m ready to divide for the sleeves (again) on Beatrix’s Leksak.  Soon I’ll be as far along as I was when I realized I needed to start over.

I’ve mostly been reading beekeeping books this week.  I read Increase Essentials (which is great), finished volume 1 of The Practical Beekeeper and began volume 2.  But, yesterday at the library I picked up a copy of The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio from a display, remembering that I saw the movie a few years ago.  I read the first fifty pages or so last night and I’m hooked.  It’s encouraging to read about a mom raising ten kids during hard times, using her determination and cleverness to keep her family afloat.

Your Leksak looks good. I am also about as far along with my second try. Still haven’t ripped out the first, although I’ll need the yarn soon. The new one on size 7’s is fitting much better.

The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio! What a great book. The movie doesn’t hold a candle to it though. My young teenaged son read the book too and enjoyed it so much that he wrote the author and she wrote back. I think I’ll have to reread that one.

    Ginny,
I need to read that last book you mentioned! I read the write-up on the Amazon link and got chills while I read it. Think it might be exactly what I need right now.

    Love,
    Taryn

I want to join in but honestly I’ve been knitting the same thing for the last three months! I’m trying to finish this sweater I started for my husband over a year ago and it’s been slow going on size two needles. I have on sleeve left and I really just need to be done with it. Hopefully soon…

Love the new sweater for Bea. I love all your knits and love how your children look in them, it’s so inspiring. Good luck with this one! Thanks for hosting the yarn along every week. I know it’s a lot with the new baby, who is so adorable as all your kids are! Hope you are having a good week.

I am learning, slowly, to knit socks and my first attempt is soon to be frogged; we must just keep on and we will get there! Your knitting is lovely! I think I read this book a few years back… or maybe I saw the movie? for some reason it is hard to remember! I know I liked it though!!! 🙂 Wonderful reading about bees! Good strength to you!

Ginny, I was wondering what project you were working on in this post -> https://www.gsheller.com/2014/04/cant.html The yarn and pattern in that picture look very lovely. ~x~ Tasneem

Hi Tasneem! The scarf in the basket is this one: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/GinnySheller/scarf-with-no-name which is my favorite, but not a pattern I’d recommend because it really rolls at the edges. The yarn is unrelated. It’s this https://www.etsy.com/listing/112467450/zeta-hand-dyed-polwarth-wool-and-silk-dk?ref=shop_home_active_5&ga_search_query=zeta but a less variegated version.

Like you I found the tension not quite right but did not rip it out (pattern Leksak). I knitted the age 6 for my 3.5 year old granddaughterusing Debbie Bliss rialto DK on 4mm needles and it will do her next winter only. I have now started one for my 6 year old grandson but I am doing the 8 year old and using Caron simply soft on 4.5mm needles. I am a tight knitter , I think!

I really love that blue! I’m sorry you had to reknit- have you worked up the fortitude to rip the first one back yet? That’s always the worst part for me.

I love that color blue. I wish my girls would wear those lovely muted colors that I want to knit for them. All they want is florescent colors, and my eyes just can’t handle them! Re-knitting seems to be the story of my life these last few months. It’s become so normal. I hope you get to push through!
