I often link to resources that I and my family personally use and recommend. I participate in the Amazon associates program and if you enter Amazon.com through my blog and then make a purchase, I receive a small percentage of the sale. I never recommend a product or resource for the sole purpose of being compensated financially. If I write that we use or love something, you can trust that we do.

The next book you should read is Zero Waste Home (Bea Johnson). Fantastic read! We have gotten rid of half of our things and couldn’t be happier, and we are not collectors to begin with. In fact, 2014 is an experiment. No presents this year at all. Special experiences for the birthday child (and Christmas, Easter etc), but no stuff!
This book and your blog Ginny have helped me feel content in our 900 square home (5 kids). I have been meaning to thank you for some time now . . .

Thanks! I just requested it from the library! I’ve been thinking the same thing about gift free birthdays. I would love to aim for special experiences rather than gifts, especially when there isn’t really anything that the child whose birthday we are celebrating wants!
