Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

20140121-DSC_5721Knitting:  Another Jane hat and my Follow Your Arrow shawl (I went with clue 2A.)

Reading:  Crossing to Safety and The Good Earth.  I last read The Good Earth in high school, and am rereading it for my book club.  I wonder if I loved it back then as much as I do now.  I plan to read the whole trilogy this time around.

ha ha…it’s only been nearly a year since I played along…and I noticed I’m reading the same book series (have had read lots of other books in between, but still…sort of ridiculous)! It’s nice to come back and play.

I picked 2A to go with 1B, but I’m only 8 rows in. On Sun, I started a 2nd shawl (with my original yarns) in 1A, but don’t really like how it’s working up. I wish I had time to knit 2 shawls as the clues come out, as I think it would be fun to see how things develop and it would be more exciting than knitting a 2nd version later once I have the full pattern. I just tell myself it’s a sign of a good life to be busy and always adding items (whether home or personal) to the to do list. I hope you are enjoying the KAL! (sjn821 on Rav)

I am new to this and my mind has just blown with ideas. I am wanting to do a yarn meet up in my home town and with some ladies from my church who have shared an interest in learning how to crochet and knit! Your blog gives me inspiration! I haven’t worked on much lately because I am working on a project for my wedding. (Crazy Bride ME) Thank you for your creativity and openness to share!

Love your picture! Yarn Along is a highlight of my week, and your work is always lovely. The color you chose for your shawl is so wonderful.

I’ve been looking for Crossing to Safety at the library, but haven’t had much luck. One of them seemed to have it but was then ruined by a sprinkler flood so I’m trying interlibrary loan. Your knitting inspires so much. Some day I’ll get there. 🙂 I *finally* finished that $%^$% shawl. I think it’ll be a long time before I try one again, hahaha!

I wonder what you thought of Crossing to Safety? I took it out of the library soon after you first mentioned it here, but I ended up returning it without reading it. I had kind of scanned a few pages and it somehow didn’t appeal to me…I got the impression that there was a depressing tone to the book, which is not something I could take right now.

I’m noticing the garter stripes, did you knit clue 1A? How’re you liking the mystery experience so far? This is my first mystery knit along as well. I went with BB and am itching to knit and AA shawl. I may have to look into my stash and see what I have.

Ginny – I always love your knitting and have read many of your recommendations. I have a recommendation for you today though. My Lady’s Money by Wilkie Collins. I’ve read other by him and always like them, but this was my favorite and a thoroughly enjoyable story throughout. (and it’s free, since it is old!)

I enjoyed re reading Good Earth so I think you will as well. I think as an adult I was more moved by the story than as a teenager.

I love your photograph. I’ve just checked out both your book recommendations. I always read the first page before choosing a book, it’s great that you can do that on-line before buying. They both sound interesting. So good that returning to one of them was as good, even better than the first time. So often it’s the other way around.
    Happy reading.

I read The Good Earth in high school too and have been thinking about revisiting it. I’m curious to read stuff I read then again with a new, “grown up” perspective.
