~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
It’s finally time to start the decreases on Keats’ hat. I am following this pattern. I will be so very glad to be finished with this project! All the ribbing is making me want to knit lace, but I am afraid that I would end up with a big mess of mistakes if I attempted anything complicated right now.
I started reading Ann’s new book, The Greatest Gift, over the weekend. For the past few years we have celebrated the Jesse Tree with our children during Advent (this is my favorite Jesse Tree devotional book for children.) The Greatest Gift is essentially an Advent devotional for adults, centering around the tradition of the Jesse Tree. The length of the readings is really manageable, so it should be easy to stick with this, especially since I love Ann’s writing. I think that reading this each evening, once my kids are in bed, will help me maintain my focus on what’s important this season.

I didn’t realize she had a new book. She is such a blessing.

Ginny,
Joining a day late this week. I was going to mention last week that I read Grapes of Wrath and it was really good. Heavy, but good. I feel drawn to reading about that time period as well. I’d recommend another one from that time period: Little Heathens: Hard Times and High Spirits on an Iowa Farm during the Great Depression. That one is an easy read and I absolutely loved it. My grandma recommended it to me and I’m so glad she did. It reminded me of my grandpa growing up on an Iowa farm.
Love,
Taryn

Oh, I’m loving Ann’s book. My husband and I are reading through it. I was going to read it to the kids too, but decided to print off her old Jesse Tree notes for the kids. It’s really been amazing. My husband actually just sent me an email from work, saying he can’t tell me how much he’s appreciated that I pushed to change up this Christmas and do the Jesse Tree as a family. It meant so much to me that it’s changing him as much as it’s changing me. God’s doing some great things with our family this Christmas.
I am still a little jealous that Ann is your friend. Ok, a lot. 😉 Fortunately I get to enjoy her writings! Oh, grace is good.

My boy needs a hat and that one is it! We are headed to Virginia (yay!) to see family just after Christmas and he will need a cozy cap. I’ve been looking for a pattern and I think this is it. I like ribbing.
A side note to say that I love your blog. I generally try to limit myself to your blog and Soulemama, you both leave me inspired and refreshed in such a practical and realistic way. God is good. May you be blessed this advent season and may you have a blessed Nativity.

I’m eventually supposed to be knitting such a hat for someone around here. Ugh.
Every time I read Ann’s blog I am left wondering what she’s trying to say or who she is talking about. Writing styles are such a very personal thing, aren’t they? There is another really great blogger who is a very good writer…but I just can’t get through her posts. I’ve tried so many times!

I saw that book recently when I was at the Christian book store picking up a gift for my mom. I almost bought it for myself but I’m trying really hard not to spend money on myself right now. I guess I could add it to my wish list and save it for next year’s advent season.

Have you ever knitted a Terra Shawl by Jared Flood? It is like a fake lace project but so nice to knit. I have made so many. They are addicting to knit and a fantastic gift for anyone (well girls I guess). It is very difficult to mess it up. I am still laughing about the pictures of Johnny yesterday with the baby knitting. They need a Hey Girl comment on them.

YAY for being so close to finishing Keats’ hat! It’s a perfect boy hat with all that ribbing. 🙂

Ribbing is my nemisis! I make a mess out of it every time. I love the way it looks and the color of that yarn is *just right* for ribbing.

The hat will look great and after it is finished and you still feel for it you can start something lacy:)
Thanks for Yarn Along!

There is nothing like getting to the decreases of a hat! Then it flies off the needles 🙂 I say throw caution to the wind and start a lace project 🙂

The book looks lovely. I think I’ll add it to my list. I know what you mean about complicated knitting. I’ve just been knitting simple ball ornaments over the last week because my focus has been so diverted with family and cooking and house guests. Everything in its season.
