(photo taken in Myrtle Beach a little over a month ago)
Yesterday my firstborn turned thirteen. Unlike most kids his age, he isn’t too keen on taking on teenager status. I heard him telling my mom on the phone that just like his dad pretends to turn 27 every year, he’s just going to keep turning twelve. He is after all the child who wrote this poem when he was nine years old. I’ve had all sorts of sentimental thoughts running through my mind lately as I can’t help but think about these past thirteen years of being a mom, and how they have changed me. I know Seth would appreciate my keeping them to myself as they relate to him though!
I’ll write more about his birthday specifics soon. I’ve been meaning to share some of his current interests here. He keeps us busy. Right now, I am too worn out from the past few days! (two birthdays, a baseball tournament, and Jonny working around the clock.)

That is a beautiful mother/son moment in that picture. My oldest two are 14 (about to be 15) and my daughter is 13 and my 3rd son just turned 12 and I just can’t believe I have two teenagers now and next year will make 3 of them. My third son is like your son that he really wants to stay the age he is. That is what I like about homeschooling that our children aren’t pressured by “growing up” too fast. All of my children seem to enjoy the ages they are and what they get to learn and do. I distinctly remember for myself that I could not wait to be “16” and then when I reached that age it was “18” and so on. Now I look back and sure wish that I could have had projects, hobbies that interested me more to keep myself occupied but also someone to encourage me to serve the Lord at each stage I was in.
I also meant to comment on your pregnancy picture from the other day. You looked so beautiful. Your family is adorable and God has richly blessed you. I know you’ve had some hard days here at the end with pain, but they will soon be past and snuggles will begin. The shawl you received as a gift was beautiful. I loved the colors.

My baby turns 13 in just a few weeks; her 15 year old brother tells everyone, “we’re young adults, we just don’t like being called teenagers.” Kids are so funny, yet they are so serious about these things. Happy b-day wishes to your firstborn! Lovely photo. 🙂

Happy, happy birthday Seth! I wish I lived nearby, I would beg him to take me hunting for treasures on the beach! And fossil hunting! And tree/bug/plant identification hunting.
Congrats on having a teenager-I mean constant 12-year-old, mama 🙂

Happy Birthday Seth! Teenagers are wonderful human beings, and really, it’s just a number. All that “stuff” about teenagers? Total Bunk. Just keep being fabulous, wonderful you!

A huge Happy Birthday to Seth! In our family we don’t count the years – we even treat kid’s birthdays in a similar fashion. It is just a wonderful opportunity to celebrate life – and to have a “special” day! We all need those!
