(Yes, my kids and my kitchen get really dirty every day, and Beatrix keeps raiding the frozen blueberries.)
I truly hate to boast or brag, but the other night Beatrix told me that I am the “best mom in the whole wide world.” I know: she’s only four (nearly five.) I think Seth followed her words with something along the lines of “You’re only saying that because we’re having brownies for dinner.” He then turned and said to me very matter of factly, “But you are the best mommy in the world.” And he turns thirteen in a few weeks. Seth always says things just like they are, he doesn’t really know how to be anything but honest. So if he says I’m the best, he sincerely means it. Obviously his words made my day.
While it’s true that dinner started out as just brownies, they had sweet potatoes in them, so they were sort of healthy (this recipe, and then add a simple chocolate ganache on top to make them really good.) And we did end up eating a roast chicken (store bought) and some salad as well.

Well now that’s is quite a compliment. And full of truth. Only a almost thirteen year old can add a follow on comment, followed by a quick coverup like that, right?! lol They do that at 23, too. 😉
I love the honesty of your photos. Makes me feel right at home.
(My five year old grandson thinks I make mac and cheese the BEST (it’s from a box) and I just go along ~ I told him the secret is the extra love I put into it! So far, so good!)
Have a blessed weekend!

Hahah I love that pouty look on Beatrix’ face!
That’s so sweet of Seth and B. What awesome kids you have-you’re obviously doing something right 🙂 And brownies for dinner?!?! That’s awesome!

My beloved Nana ALWAYS insisted on dessert first!! Nothing was more frustrating to her than enjoying a nice meal only to be too full when dessert was served. She gave me a love for chocolate and the best memories any girl could wish for…..

Now serve a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream with maple syrup on top of your oatmeal for breakfast and you’ll secure your title for good…
And your kitchen and kids look like mine…I’m always worried that CPS is going to show up and see my wild, half-dressed kids running around…! They clean up real nice, though!

Brownies for dinner!! What a revolutionary thought! I need to think outside the box more… but the trick would probably be convincing my husband I hadn’t gone insane! The glimpses of your life are fun and encouraging.

Every kid deserves a brownie dinner now again.

Brownies for dinner.
Those are memories right there.
For that, you are the best mom ever.

Mmmmmm….brownies for dinner…….

What’s the point of being the mommy if you can’t have brownies for dinner once-in-awhile? 🙂 And I think those kids of yours are pretty darned discerning.

You have such a beautiful home.

I, on the other hand, had a son this week ready to trade me in for either his aunt, grandmother or best friend’s mother. It tore my heart. I know it was just our jumping back into our homeschool year but still …. Then, yesterday, he just got out the vacuum after classes and vacuumed the whole house and cleaned up the dishes after dinner. Go figure! Of course we went out for ice cream cones after that!!!
So glad you had a great dinner. I am in awe of Beatrice – she is so darling (as are all your kids!)
Happy weekend!

I fully support brownies for dinner. During my latest first trimester we had a few nights of banana splits for dinner. I love seeing your children enjoying themselves! Also fully supported!

Too cute. Glad to see my kids aren’t the only dirty ones.
But really, my 13yr old son would not be caught dead thinking , yet alone saying that. 🙁

Oh, I love Silas’s wool diaper cover – what a great one with a felted sweater, perhaps? I saw that the brownies are paleo – does your family avoid grains?
Ginny says
The diaper cover is from Rebourne: http://www.etsy.com/shop/rebourne and yes, it’s made partially from a felted sweater. The Rebourne covers are my favorite. As far as grains go, yes, we do avoid grains to some extent a big exception being rice. Seth and I eat gluten free and I gravitate towards paleo recipes for that reason. But we do eat non-paleo approved things such as beans…too expensive to feed this family otherwise!

Ah, yes…the frozen blueberries. Julia is also a big fan. 🙂
Heather says
Oh my goodness, my kiddos raid the frozen blueberries all the time. My daughter couldn’t figure out how I knew all the time – the purple fingers and face gave her away

You ARE the best mom in the whole wide world!!!! I made brownies yesterday too, but to share with my kids when they got home from their first day of school.
(great idea to add sweet potatoes).
Have a great day!!!!

I absolutely love this!!! Seth sounds like my David. No beating around the bush with those guys.

Haha, that is all good – the mama love, the brownies… yesterday my 3 year old was up super late and chatting with me, and told me, “I hate mudders (mothers).” I asked him what he hates about them, and he said, “Just all the things about them.” I asked what he thought about mamas. “I love mamas! I love you!”
Aaaaand… we are working on the use of ‘hate’ with this little one. Ahem.
