I finished my Seashore Cowl weeks ago and excitedly blocked it. I wasn’t sure it would fit right, or be a knit that I would actually be able to wear. As soon as it was dry I nervously pulled it over my head and totally fell in love. It is so soft and drapey and pretty. The only problem is that it I don’t think it “goes with” any of my clothes (I seem to have this problem with a lot of my knits,) including my limited maternity wardrobe (that gray dress? I have two of them and wear them all the time.) But really, that’s okay. It doesn’t need to match anything. It can be the pretty, special cowl that I pull on over whatever I’m wearing this fall and winter for a little extra warmth and coziness. Fashion has never been my special talent and maybe the cowl will help to shift focus away from some of the bad creative outfits I put together. I’m thinking that it might just work nicely as a nursing cover too in the early weeks while my new baby is still small.
Silas, joined me for photos yesterday. The flies were really biting, but didn’t seem to be bothering him nearly as much as they were me. Silas begged Jonny and I to pick mulberries from a nearby tree for him between giving out messy hugs and kisses, my favorite kind.

It’s beautiful!!! And it looks so soft and squishy. Just perfect.

Now, I’d say it looks great with the dress you’re wearing, which means that it would look great with the dress’s twin, so there are two outfits right there. Nice work.

Oh wow! That cowl is gorgeous! (and that little boy of yours is quite adorable too!)

I love your new cowl. Now I want to try to knit one. Your pics are as usual so lovely. They lift my spirit as I am staying with my mom who has cancer. I so look forward to seeing what your big beautiful family is doing.

LOVE that second to last photo when Silas is leaning in for a smooch. Priceless.
Never worry about being matchy matchy. If nothing else I’ve learned this….creative is good for the soul. And your beautiful cowl will go with everything (in my fashion book!) I bet you will find this to be one of your ‘go to’ wardrobe pieces in the months to come!

Your cowel is quite lovely indeed! My grandmother had a mulberry tree (come to think of it – we have 2 in our back yard!) Mulberries are quite delish!

You look lovely in that colourway Ginny. How would you rate the difficulty of this project? I tried to make the oaklet shawl but … i’m too novice and gave up. but i really want to learn to knit lace. or do you think that’s too ambitious for a beginner?

That cowl is gorgeous! And I LOVE the idea of a nursing cover-it makes me want to have a baby just so I could have a cowl to use as one! Whatever, the cowl can be your “statement piece” or whatever fashion people call things like that 🙂
What is Silas asking you in the 6th picture down-you have such a cute/funny look on your face!

Those colors are gorgeous, and are neutral enough to go with a lot of things, without necessarily “matching.” That’s a great pattern!

I totally thought when I was looking through the photos and before I saw your writing that it would make a great nursing cover, and if you made one even a little bigger you could use it as one for a long time!

Ginny, you are glowing! Pregnancy really suits you! I love being pregnant, but I get really swollen, especially my nose 🙂 Lovely shawl, and Silas is adorable too! xoxo
Fräulein Rucksack says
It looks fantastic and goes totally well with the dress. But I’m not a fashion one neither.
How do you deal new knits with messy kisses? Just don’t care or try to save it? Well, after some kids you probably know how to do it!?
I think it’s so smart to have nice clothes twice. And it looks so sweet on you.
Barbara says
