~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
I’m knitting another hat! Gabriel keeps his hair very short, and his head gets cold. He has several hats, but they go missing, so I decided to knit him another. I am using leftover yarn from Jonny’s arm warmers and Gabe is really happy about that. It’s kind of a grown-up colorway I think. He was very alarmed though when he saw the pink yarn I used for the provisional cast on! I assured him that it was only temporary, and I think he breathed a sigh of relief when I removed it this afternoon. I’m not following a specific pattern, just a basic ribbed hat.
I’m still reading My Antonia, so I thought I would share a couple of my kids’ favorites right now. We have The Story Blanket from the library. It’s a lovely story and it’s about knitting! The girls have requested it over and over.
Seth read the entire Redwall series (all 22 books!) over the past two months or so. He loved them so much that he wants to turn around and read them all over again. We have The Redwall Cookbook out from the library now. According to my boys, the book is divided seasonally with a story and recipes for each season. The illlustrations are really beautiful as well. We’ll be buying this book I’m sure, because I’ve never seen my kids so excited about recipes before! Seth and Keats follow me around reading ingredient lists to me. The recipes are full of good sounding things, all vegetarian with the exception of a bit of seafood. This really is a great companion to the Redwall books!

I, too, found your blog from Pioneer Woman’s Homeschooling section. I love knitting and have looked at many of your projects. I am curious about the “stretchy” bind-off you used on Jonny’s Arm Warmers — I wonder where I might find directions?
Love your stories and your photos are awsome!

Hi Rhonda! Here’s a link to that bind off: http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall09/FEATjssbo.php

Hi Ginny! I discovered your blog through “The Pioneer Woman” and I am very excited that I did. So far, everything that I have had the chance to read has been sweet, entertaining and educational. I have enjoyed it very much this weekend during my free time. I saw that you are reading My Antonia, one of my most favorite books in the whole world is O’Pioneers. I am not sure why I have not read My Antonia, but maybe that will be next on the list. Anyway, just stopping by to, thank you and tell you to keep up the great work!

did Seth read “Harry Potter” series? I definitely recommend it! The books are awesome, but the movies, not so much…

My daughter recently had a Redwall reading marathon… they are great books! We got several of them from the library in audiobook format; Brian Jacques narrated them with a full cast. We also have an autographed Redwall cookbook from several years ago when he visited our town. I highly recommend the Shrimp and Hotroot soup!

Just found your blog and I love it! I am Catholic and it has been very hard to find a beautiful Catholic homemaking/homeschooling blog. I am chomping at the bit for the schoolyear to end so that I can HOMESCHOOL! This took three whole yers for my husband to prayfully agree with me and I can’t wait to have all my chicks under my wing where they belong. Thank you for all the inspiration. Now if I could only knit, but alas, I am a crocheter.

My son is reading Redwall at the moment as well. I didn’t know there were so many books. There is also a cartoon of the series on Netflix if they are ever interested.
The Story Blanket sounds wonderful.

We got our oldest son that cookbook a few years back after he read all
Of the Redwall books. I remember him making two of the recipes. One, a berry dessert was decent, the other, something with root vegetables and breadc crumbs (?) was a definite no-go. He did the same thing though–constant talking about the recipes and their ingredients. 🙂

It is lovely that your children are getting into finding recipes!

Love reading the Redwall books!! In the process of moving (getting married this summer) so moving a lot of my books to fiance’s house because it’ll be closer to our future home. Fiance’s best friend wanted to know what the box in the back seat of his car was, and when he found out that they were Redwall books, he wanted to borrow them!! Definitely a great series, and great that your son is such a good reader 🙂

I love the worry – my son does that too. Thanks for the recommendation on The Story Blanket. I read Extra Yarn to my preschool and kindergarten classes and they requested that one for days after (and love when I bring out my knitting to show it to them). Now to find my camera so add my Yarn Along…
