~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
I’ve been anxiously awaiting the moment that I could really begin working on a shawl that I cast on many months ago! The pattern is called Clothilde and I am knitting it with Brambleberry Yarns Blackberry sport that was dyed with indigo and onion skins. I fell in love with this yarn the moment I saw it, and couldnt’ resist winding it and casting on for the shawl back in May even though I knew it would be months before I could really work on it. Of course I am now thinking that I might try to squeeze a Christmas sweater in for Silas, but even if I do, that won’t set me back too far, and it won’t be long before I am able to return to my shawl!
I am stumbling my way through Jesus of Nazareth: The Infancy Narratives as it was recommended by a friend and is a fitting advent read. I am also contemplating making some new felt Christmas decorations from one of my favorite Christmas craft books, Fa la la la Felt.
** Don’t have a blog, but want to Yarn Along? Why not post a photo on Small Things’ Facebook page on Wednesdays?

What lovely yarn. Blue is a favorite here.

Our pastor has been recommending those books, I would love to read them if I could settle down and read anything but read aloud children’s fiction. I love the color of your shawl, and you can totally squeeze in a sweater before Christmas. He is tiny!

Ginny,
The color of that yarn is gorgeous! I love Cynthia’s yarns. And that shawl looks so pretty. It’s always so fun to see what you are knitting. What sweater pattern are you thinking about for Silas?
I just finished some socks for Jeff and he’s very happy about it.
Love,
Taryn

Beautiful pattern and beautiful choice of yarn, Ginny. I’m working on a shawl, too. It just feels like that kind of season – perfect for shawl knitting. Hope you are having a blessed Christmas season.

Thanks for this very motivating Yarn along.
And I’m impressed. If I was going to knit even the smallest of sweaters before Christmas, nothing else would be done 😉
Carly says
Will check out your books Ginny, they both sound good. Anything with Jesus and/or felt usually is. Jesus especially 🙂 Also having a giggle at the idea of squeezing a sweater in…a baby sock maybe 😉 xx
Theresa says
Lovely shawl-in-progress! Lovely yarn!
Susan @ Tea & Cake says
A sweater by Christmas?! “She’d been drinking too much eggnog..” LOL! But, if anyone can do it, Ginny, you can!
Your Clothilde is sure to be lovely in that gorgeous yarn.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Renee Anne says
I love when you say things like, “squeeze in a Christmas sweater for Silas” because doing something like that for Little Man makes me laugh. I wish I could knit him a sweater in less than a week. I hope to (finally) finish his giraffe today or tomorrow…maybe Friday and he can have it for Christmas. It’s been on needles far too long and he already loves it. I’d also like to finish my hat, which will probably happen 🙂
Ginny says
Well, we’ll see. I don’t think I’ve ever knit 400 yards of yarn in a week, but I’m going to try! I cast on last night, and then restarted four times or so before I was happy–not a good sign.
Nadja says
The shawl looks lovely so far, and I do like the color!
I got that book for my mother last year. She said she read it very slowly, because there is so much to absorb and meditate on. Our Holy Father does write well!
You do knit fast…squeezing in a sweater–even a little one–before Christmas would mean abandoning practically everything else between now and then if it was me.
Tricia- Crunchy Catholic Momma says
ahaha Ginny, you are so brave, or crazy but so am I (crazy not brave). Casting on a sweater before Christmas…I leave that to you really fast knitters who won’t have a nervous break down. I am making some felt Christmas ornaments too, tomorrow. Today we go out and pick a tree. That yarn is beauitful by the way.
Mary G says
Love the design of the shawl … clean and sophisticated! Hugs and a very, very Merry Christmas to all the family!
Kirsten says
Hi Ginny!
I am knitting the Bulle tunic. I definitely see having to knit some more for my other girls. Have a beautiful, peaceful Christmas! God Bless you and yours!

I like that yarn! I can’t wait to see it done.

Your shawl has started out so nicely! I haven’t knit a shawl in ages, but love how they unfold!
Joy says
I can see why that yarn appealed to you. Beautiful! I can’t wait to see it finished. Good luck squeezing in a sweater for Silas. 🙂
Kathleen says
I love the yarn! Both reads sound good, I was looking for something to read that was good for the advent season. I will have to check this out.
Svenna says
I’d love to knit another shawl (after Christmas, that is). I caught the bug with my first ever shawl (well, second – but first real proper one) 🙂
That felt book sounds like a lot of fun! Always in the last week before Christmas there is so much inspiration!
Nicole Spring says
I love the color of that yarn with it’s speckles! It’s going to look beautiful on you.
K is currently working on the star garland from that felt book 🙂
