~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
I have cute knitting to share this week! These little acorn ornaments knit up very quickly, and are lots of fun make. My children don’t approve of my color choices. I think they want me to knit them in “real” acorn colors. Actually, I do think I would like that too, but I like the bright colors for ornaments. The pattern is available here, and my Ravelry notes are here. I plan to knit more of these!
I’ve been reading Christmas Remembered in the evenings. Sometimes I read aloud to my kids and sometimes I read it to myself in bed with a headlamp on so that I don’t wake Silas. Tomie dePaola recounts Christmas memories from his past, and there is something lovely and cozy about his stories.

I instantly purchased the pattern and started knitting acorns too! 🙂

I’ve always enjoyed your yarn along posts and have finally decided to join in. :o)
Those acorns are so sweet and are great for ornaments. Thanks for the link to the pattern. I’m off to check it out.

Love those acorns! We’re getting our tree this weekend, and I can see a few of these little guys decking our halls. 🙂
Heather L. says
The acorns are adorable! If only I had more knitting time (or fewer projects I am trying to get done). The book sounds good too…..
Tina says
I love your knitted acorns, super cute!
Julia says
I was just talking to a friend about knitting another friend an acorn, that pattern looks nicer than the one I found. Thanks!
Kelli Mayhorn says
Love your little acorn ornaments! Oh how I wish i could knit that small! I recently started stitch and purl’s sunshine vest and the size 6 needles are something to work with! It’s the first time I’ve knit something so small. I doubt I could advance to these acorns or socks (shutter) anytime soon.
I love visiting your yarn along. I wish my blog was in shape to share as well. I’ve neglected it for far too long. I did do one yarn along in January, but I’m so slack I started and restarted the very same project several times! Oy. In fact, I’m working on it yet again. A prayer shawl for my upcoming birth. It’s an easy knit, I’m just impatient. :). So your multiple works a week astonish me!
Blessings on your day, Ginny!

Now without misspelling my own alias 😉 I have a question. Are those acorn also knitted in two parts and sewn together like the ones I know?
PS. I like your brigthly coloured acorns.
Ginny says
Yes, two parts! It takes me about 20-30 minutes to make one.

Looks like a fun little project to knit, Ginny. I haven’t read that book in ages – need to order it from the library to share with the kids!
By the way, I hadn’t yet found your blog last year, but a few days ago saw your post from last year on the beeswax nativity made in a chocolate mold. We just bought a seven lb block of local beeswax to make modeling wax and candles, and would like to make several nativity sets as Christmas gifts from it as well. The link you gave indicates the mold is no longer available. I am hoping to make a trek out to the cake and confection supply shop and find a suitable replacement. Anyway, just wanted to say thank you for the idea. 🙂

What cute acorns! I wonder if I’d have the patience to make enough of them for a garland? Not lately, I’m afraid 🙂
Melanie Routhier says
Those acorns are too cute! Thanks for sharing the link Ginny, now I know what Christmas ornament I will be making for family next year. Perfect!

Stephinie (from Gypsy Forest) just sent me an awesome surprise package that had the biggest acorn lids that I have ever, ever in my life seen. Maybe I should knit some acorns for them! Oh, and today is the day. I am officially advanced maternal age!

From little acorns . . . These are so sweet!

I absolutely love Tomie DePaola. I worked with him in Portland Public Schools (in OR) and it was amazing to see how the children just totally adored his stories. Somehow, I haven’t read that one so I can’t wait to check that one out from our library.
Acorns! Perfect use of ends of skeins. I make Easter eggs with left overs in the Spring, but this is just perfect for fall..
Hannah@HomeBaked says

Love those acorns. This week is snowflakes for me. A bit of crochet, which I dare say I am getting a wee bit better at!

I like the red acorn. 🙂 I once had acorn bells I bought during my frivolous college days when Eddie Bauer Home would deliver to my dorm. They were gold with silver leaves and I pretended they were from Lorien. Actually, I still do….
Tracey says
Your are right Ginny, your knitting this week is cute and now I want to knit a few acorns myself.
We have Christmas Remembered too and it is one of my favorite books, I do adore Tomie De Paola’s writings and illustrations.

I love the acorns! I’ve been getting mini stockings done for ornaments here and there, and those acorns would go with them perfectly!
I slept later than usual, and figured I’d be way down the list for your Yarn Along today. I guess sleeping in has it’s rewards sometimes!

Ginny, I love that book!!! Actually I love everything Tomie de Paola!! I just read your post from yesterday and was reading Lisa’s post. Thank you as a child who knew what it was like to go to bed hungry for doing the giveaway for her!! I am still postpartum but I think the tears would have flowed the same either way.

So cute! I like how little they are. Isn’t it funny they want realistic colors? My knitting has been slowed down as I recover from too much knitting (as if there was ever such a thing!). I hope you have a lovely Wednesday, it’s sunny here in PA so maybe you have the same sun!!
