Magic Night

It really did feel like a magical night.  Friends joined us for the long walk through the woods and to the river at one of our favorite places.  It was already nearly dark when we arrived on the beach.  After lingering for a couple of hours, we walked the nearly two miles back in the dark.  The moon was just bright enough that we could have gone without flashlights.  I raced ahead so that I could stand on the trail in near silence and listen to the wind in the trees.  I wondered if I would scare myself, being alone  in the woods in the dark, but I wasn’t scared at all.  It was just too peaceful, too beautiful:  a perfect night.

My friend and midwife mentioned to me as we walked that she and her husband had been enjoying a show called “Call the Midwife.”  We recalled that I gave her the book that the series was based on years ago.  Now Jonny and I are watching season one.  It’s available to watch on the PBS website until December 3rd.  We’re totally hooked.  “Gosh, It’s marvelous.”  (Chummy is my favorite character.)

That does look like a magical night…you sure are brave!!

We just moved to Virginia this past year, but we’re in the mountains. Will definitely have to check out this park in the spring, thank you so much for the recommendation!

I have yet to see it but I love the book. It holds a special place in my heart as the author was my piano teacher as a child. She was a totally wonderful woman in real life and introduced my to some amazing music.

The show was wonderful, but the books are even better! I am on the second now (it’s a trilogy), and I don’t want them to end!!

My children and I loved “Call the Midwife”! We can’t wait for the next season to air in the US — not until next fall, I think. **wistful sigh** We all liked Chummy very much, but are also quite fond of the elderly nun who has dementia, and Jenny, the main character. So much to love about the series!

I’m loving “Call the Midwife” too! It wasn’t until I watched a couple episodes that I remembered I had read the book that the series is based on. Chummy is my favorite too, how could she not be? “Call the Midwife” is filling the void for my husband and I until the new season of “Downton Abbey” starts.
