Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

I nearly forgot to take a Yarn Along photo today.  The light was fading fast, so I grabbed my book and project and ran outside.  The moment I laid my things down to take a photo, the chickens moved in to investigate…

I think they’re pretty amusing.

This week I finished Larkspur’s Bulle, and cast on for Beatrix’s. I am knitting Bea’s in the same yarn and colorway (tosh vintage/amber trinket) and waiting to give Larkspur hers until Bea’s is finished.

I finished reading Far from the Madding Crowd, and started reading Henry James’ Washington Square.  According to the back cover, Graham Greene once said of it, “Perhaps the only novel in which a man has successfully invaded the feminine field and produced a work comparable to Jane Austen’s.”  I am reading this book for my book club and I am enjoying it so far.  While I did like Far from the Madding Crowd, I am appreciating the fact that Washington Square doesn’t have me feeling like I need to look up the definition of words constantly!

Grab a button for your post or sidebar! Visit the Yarn Along page for additional button colors!
Below is a linky list if you’d like to link up and join the Yarn Along.
(1) Make sure the link you submit is to the URL of your blog post or your specific Flickr photo and not your main blog URL or Flickr Photostream. Please be sure and link to your current Yarn Along post, and not a Yarn Along post from a previous week.
(2) Include a link back to this post in your blog post or on your flickr photo page so that others who may want to join the Yarn Along can find us!
(3) If you have any trouble linking up, just email me and I will help you!
You can also join the Flickr Yarn Along group to share your knitting and reading photos anytime!

Oh my goodness. I am laughing so hard! I am charmed that she pulled the ball clean off the crate. I love it when chickens are so inquisitive, though I haven’t yet had them sample any of my knits.

I think the birds are saying, “That is one gorgeous yarn. I would like to taste it.” And I would say the same thing.

Do you ever feed your chickens spaghetti? It is one hilarious site. Our old flock used to get so excited they’d be tossing the strands around and clucking. Everyone ended up with spaghetti in her “hair” looking like they were at a raucous New Year’s Eve party.

What fun photos with the chickens! They’re almost as bad as kitties with yarn!
And your yarn is absolutely gorgeous! I’d love to knit the adult version of that darling sweater… maybe someday… thanks for your inspiration!

I love the chickens! I’ve been surprised by how much I’ve enjoyed my own backyard chickens the past couple years. They each have their own very distinct personalities. They are busy, inquisitive, and amusing gardening companions.

Love the chicken pictures, they made me laugh. The yarn is so pretty! Do you order on-line, Ginny, or do you have a local shop that you can see the yarn first? I’ve been looking on-line and see some that look gorgeous, but I’m a little hesitant in case the computer color is not true to life.

The main yarn that I seem to order is madelinetosh because it’s cheaper online. Both WEBS (www.yarn.com) and Mr. Yarn offer a quantity discount. So I wait until I can order enough skeins to get the discount. Then I look at the colors and choose the ones that I think I like, and go to Ravelry. I do a search of the specific yarn, for instance, “Tosh vintage.” Then I add to the search box the colorway that I am considering. I think that by looking at lots of different projects in that colorway (obviously taken in all different kinds of lighting) you can get a pretty good idea of whether or not you like the color. Worst case scenario: I get the yarn and don’t like it, then I return it.
The other companies that I order yarn from are Quince & Co and Beaverslide. I have purchased cards with color samples of all their colorways from both and think that is the way to go with yarns that aren’t hand dyed. Also, some smaller yarn online yarn shops are better than others at photographing their yarns. For instance, Maya at Springtree Road is excellent at taking good photos and my experience has been that yarn I have ordered from her has never been a surprise colorwise–it always matches what I expected based on her photos.
Okay, so long winded response–hope that helps a bit!
