September fossil hunt

We’ve spent the past six days with visiting family:  Jonny’s brother (he was in town for the Tough Mudder-they both finished the race and survived with only minor cuts and bruises) and my sister with two of my nephews.  Naturally, we packed every day full and are completely exhausted now, but in that good “it was so worth it” sort of way.

These photos were taken along the bank of the Potomac River in Westmoreland County.  (We were on a private stretch of beach, but if you are interested in visiting the area and doing some fossil hunting, try Westmoreland State Park.)

p.s.  I will be back later today to announce a little stitch along project that I am hosting with a friend.

    We live in Westmoreland, TN!
We were so hoping to have at least one more really hot day for a trip to the creek before summer’s end, but I don’t know if that is to be. Love your lovely photos!

So my kids want to know how a shark tooth ended up on the banks of a river. Can you help us out?

The teeth are actually fossils! They wash out of the cliffs.

Beautiful! And someone is very talented at balancing out on the board. We tried to do that in Hawaii last summer and it was hilarious watching each family member crash off in turn!

Shark teeth and a bald eagle! How exciting. It looks like your dog loved it just as much as the kids. Looks like you had such a fun time.
