~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
I decided to take your advice and start the second sock of the pair before finishing the first. That involved a trip to my local yarn store for more needles which was added incentive.
I finished reading Sarah’s Key within about two days, which is quick for me. Now I am reading Ida Elisabeth by Sigrid Undest (author of Kristin Lavransdatter, one of my all time favorite books-so much so that I give copies as gifts.) A few chapters in, I am enjoying Ida already.

Oh ,socks are my favourite Summer project, I am trying to knit them for us in various weights…they are tricky but rewarding…..
Molly Makes Do says
I think our socks are the same yarn! You captured the color so well, I just had to give up!

Beautiful green yarn — my favorite color! I’m back to some 19th century knitting this week, and continuing my project of reading through all of the Newbery winners in chronological order.

Good for you! I’m a firm believer that one can never have too many double pointed needles;)

Thanks for the link up…so now I can visit my fellow knitters.

as i posted, I bought some little circulars to try on socks, but now I’ve put them ‘somewhere safe’ and can’t find hide nor hair of them!! I’m still looking!! Time to tidy the knitting collection spots and corral all those wild needles back into one space!!
Love the color of your socks…and the idea of starting another is pretty smart. Sometimes it takes a whole ‘nother push to get your second one started after you have that ‘all done’ feeling from the first one! Socks are kind of a cool, lightweight knitting project, too

I accidentally put link twice. The first is bad.
Please can you delete it?

Also, I don’t have a blog, so no linky, but I am knitting an endless set of dishcloths for Christmas gifts and reading John D’Albee’s “I Believe in Love,” which is an incredible reflection stemming from St. Therese’s little way. It is my #1 book to give as a gift (although I also just read “Kristin Lavransdatter,” and loved it). The book changes my heart monumentously every time I read it.

The color of those socks is gorgeous. And I note that you are able to work very evenly in the round! Do you have any tips for that? I have only knitted a couple of things using more than two needles, and I always end up with a row of loose stitches where the needles meet. It seems to happen even when I’m careful about keeping the stitches tight. Do you (or does anyone here) have any specific advice about how to avoid this? I would so appreciate it. The information that I have found online is so confusing to a novice.
Caroline @ The Feminist Housewife says
This is my first time linking up…so excited to see all the other knits and books. = )

Ooh, I usually just try to start the 2nd sock right away, but I like the idea of starting it before finishing the first one! I even have a sock that I’m just about at the toe now. I should go start #2 and follow your advice!

Hi Ginny and fellow knitters ~
It’s my first time doing Yarn Along today – thanks so much for hosting and for all the inspiration. I am still a bit of a novice knitter, but one day I will attempt socks…
Happy stitching and keep yarning along 🙂
Jessica Snell says
Oh, that’s such a great green!
Jenn says
Good luck on the socks!
Kat @ Rose Prairie Quilts & Farm says
This is a fun idea of sharing, thank you. I like the idea of two sock at once just haven’t tried it myself. Maybe my next pair.

I usually do, but I don’t see a linky list today… I”ll keep checking back, maybe it will show up. I linked to your yarn along. My YA post can be found at http://michaelandkellieryan.blogspot.com/2012/06/yarn-along-snug.html
Thanks for hosting… I have yet to knit a pair of socks. They seem so intimidating to me. But yours, as always, look lovely. Such a rich shade.
kellie says
I can see the linky list now– fixed. 🙂

I totally think that the only way to knit socks at the same time. It makes them a better fit, too. That green kills me. I had to start my shawl all over, but that’s ok. Both it (and I) will be all the better for it.

Found my way here via Small Town Simplicity today! Love this. I am always knitting/crocheting and always have a book on the nightstand.
Mary says
Love the color for those socks! Looks like summer in the pine trees- very dark and rich! I’m going to take a look at those books you’ve mentioned- I’m always looking for a new read!
Wendy says
The hat I’m knitting looks very similar in color to the socks you’re working on. Have a great day!
Kim says
Love the colour!
Mary says
Oh, how funny…I just started Kristen and put it in my Yarn Along today 🙂 Looking forward to seeing what all the love is about!
Meryl says
There’s some of that gorgeous green yarn again!
Ellen says
I’ve never heard of that author, so thank you – my library reading list is becoming fuller each day!
And yes, a trip to the yarn store is always offers a little incentive. Did you come home with anything else?
Sue says
Thank you for hosting this! I look forward each week to relaxing while browsing 2 of my very favorite things….fiber and books!
Svenna says
Any reason to justify another trip to the yarn shop is a good one, right? 🙂
Heather says
I had fun participating this week. Knitting and reading seem to be two favorite pastimes this hot and lazy summer 🙂
Camilla says
That is a really smart idea how to knit socks…didn’t know this. Your socks are coming along so fast- beautiful colors..

Thanks for sharing about your new book – I am looking for a really good bedside read right now.
Also, thank you again for hosting this!

Kristin Lavransdatter is a favorite of mine, too -Undset’s psychological insight is amazing. :o) I think I read Jenny first and even though it was clearly written at a pre-faith time in her life I was entranced by her style. Kristin became a good friend through late night nursing and later prolonged illness! I’ve been through it three or four times now and I’m always gleaning something new – I think growing as a wife and mother deepens one’s understanding. Did you order Ida Elisabeth or find it at the library? I’ve been trying to get my hands on it without shelling out more book money with the move budget. :o) It’s hard to get a copy – they have one at Catholic U up here but I haven’t gotten to it yet.
Erin @ Wild Whispers says
I need to try socks again soon. For now, it’s too complicated for my mommy brain to wrap my head around. Yours look lovely!
Sandy says
LOVE that green, what an awesome vivid color! Such tiny needles. One day I shall improve and be able to use smaller fiber and needles. One day….
Tina says
Lovely sock color and what a fantastic tip! Maybe I should do that too to avoid the dreaded SSS. Your books sounds quite interesting and I’ve added it to my Goodreads list to read. Happy Knitting Ginny!

That yarn is so pretty. Maybe I’ll be able to knit socks next year.

i just started reading kristin lavransdatter… it’s funny you mentioned it! a friend lent it to me and i’m really enjoying it so far.

Socks looking good Ginny. Looking forward to seeing them when done. Ida Elizabeth is on my list. I’m currently reading An Atlas of Impossible Longing by Anuradha Roy and knitting a saddle shoulder sweater for my husband. Both of these projects have been going on for months! Sorry no photo.

I think that knitting both together will be really great for you, Ginny. It makes it so much more tolerable! 🙂

Pete is dying for me to make socks. I really should just get going!!

I really like the color of those socks. They’ll be beautiful! I’ve never done two at a time, mostly because I don’t have that many needles. I’ve never gotten second sock syndrome (although I did get second mitten syndrome once). 🙂
Katrina says
I hadn’t heard of starting a sock before the other one is finished-what a wonderful incentive to knit on. I love the green-all those tiny fine stitches. Knitting at its finest. I will have to search for your titles at our library-if you love them enough to give them as gifts, they must be wonderful reads.
Joanne says
I’m new to your blog- it’s lovely, and new to linky things so thanks for the opportunity to share the yarning love. Now to see what everyone else is doing.
Linda says
Thanks Ginny, I always enjoy reading here:)

Love that green. We saw the film version of Sarah’s Key a while back, and it was so heart breaking. I’ve staid away from the book because I figured it is even more intense.
Citysister says
I saw the movie too (on netflix now)…it was so heartbreaking…I was afraid to read the book…
Heather says
The socks are coming along so nicely! I love that green color, it is awesome! Although, I am always drawn to greens…I think I need to knit some socks for myself. Someday…
Nadja says
I do so love that color, Ginny…I definitely have a thing for greens, which is funny because when I was in high school I never had even the smallest bit of green to wear for St. Patrick’s day and always got pinched!
I can’t even imagine reading a book in two days in this phase of my life. I am a relatively fast reader, and yet it takes me weeks or months to get through books these days!
Tracey says
I think you will be very pleased with knitting socks this way Ginny, no second sock syndrome.
I read Sarah’s Key and found it to be a very quick read too, but I have never heard of Sigrid Undest so will have to try her books. Thank you for the recommendation.
Heather says
I find two socks whether on the same needles or two sets helps me so much. I finish one cuff, then do the next and so on. I really need to pick up Kristin Lavransdatter. If you give it as gifts, it must be good.
