~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
I am sharing two photos today because I couldn’t help but step back and capture the real situation in my kitchen this afternoon. Silas and Beatrix are sick and Beatrix actually never changed out of her nightgown today. I like the pretty shot of my knitting and book, but the second photo captures my day. I kind of like seeing my messy countertops and Beatrix with her uncombed hair and the marks from yesterdays’ marker incident still on her face. This is what my life really looks like.
The weather here has been cool again, and I am wishing that I could wear my February Lady Sweater! I am sure that just as I finish it, things will heat up again. I am getting close to being finished with the body, and it should only be another few days before I can move on to the sleeves. Of course with Beatrix and Silas sick, that may not actually work out the way I am hoping. I feel like I am moving so slowly on this project, but it actually knits up very quickly.
I was afraid that I would have to confess today that I am honestly reading half a dozen books right now without feeling like I am getting close to finishing any of them. While that is still true, a friend loaned me her copy of Style, Sex, and Substance a few days ago and I abandoned all my other books and read it cover to cover in a couple of days. I absolutely loved it and am going to buy myself a copy so I can reread it while marking my favorite parts and dog earing the pages.

I read that book, too, a couple of weeks ago. I read it in almost one sitting (all but the last chapter). I LOVED it and found it so validating and challenging, too. (In a good way.) I wish all the mothers I knew had a copy.

What a great idea! I was drawn to your blog, just because my name is Ginny too. I used to belong to a book group, but was usually the one who hadn’t managed to finish the book. This seems a much better idea just to share what you have enjoyed. I have only started blogging recently, but it is amazing to see how many people out there like the same things.

I love to see that there are other people like me who actually live in their houses and have ‘stuff’ on the counter!

Always more than one book. Always more than one project. Isn’t that simply the way it is? 🙂
Sharing two finished projects: a knitted vest for my son and a crocheted poncho for my daughter. Finished in time for Easter and thankfully, not at the last minute like last year’s projects were!
Thanks for hosting, Ginny. I’m off to see what other wonderfulness was created this week…

Hi Ginny,
whoops as usual messed up a bit with my link over …but at least managed to get my surname off my name for the comment…it always sounds so formal and now I’ve gone and used it as the link title…I should have put my glasses on first!
I can empathise with how you must feel at the moment…it’s awful to see a sick child…I hope they soon are all back to their happy healthy selves and that your sweater’s finished. It’s good to capture those shots of real life. One of the best bits about blog keeping is that record to look back on and remember how life was at different times…I wish there’d been such a thing when my daughter Hannah was the same age…they make amazing photo- journals.
The book sounds really fascinating no wonder you couldn’t put it down…I just linked over to the video trailer of little insights into how other women manage their lives and their coping mechanisms. Anything with another honest perspective of life interests me…I suppose that’s why we all get so hooked up on blog reading.
Thanks as always for sharing so much of your life with us all.

Get well soon, Silas and Beatrix! Your February Lady is very similar in color to mine but I suspects it will be a bit more “fitted”……

I thought I would not be able to join today but I retrieved my lost knitting bag and thus was able to shot and post what I’m currently knitting! yay!
For a second I thought Beatrix was Larkspur.

Lots of great reads this week. And a bit less knitting than usual, but what can I say – it’s gardening season! Still, I love how this weekly check in keeps me motivated to continue making progress on my handknits!

Hi Ginny
I was looking at you knitting, thinking to myself that it looks like a patter I would like to knit as well, checked out ravelry and then realised I had already earmarked it for my own next project – I just didn’t know its name!! Yours is looking very find, indeed.
Mary says
Looking forward to reading that book soon as well!

Just added my link to yarn a long for the first time. Such a great initiative! Love following what other knitters are knitting (and reading!)

I find knitting is just like reading … you always have more than one book on the go just as I always have more than one project on my needles!!!!
Love the ‘yarn along’ ! Sorry my post is rather late in the day!!
Happy knitting & reading.

your post made me smile. I love the second picture and your kitchen with all its contents.
I also tried to keep in real today, there is not just happy knitting, some knots and twists here and there, just like life. Thats why we love it I guess. Happy knitting!

You are very close with your sweater. I was amazed at how quickly it came together even in my crazy life. Just be careful blocking it because the lace grows. I am still trying to figure out how to shrink mine a bit. Not much happening here, since we have been busy preparing for our departure tomorrow.
