Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
Yarn Along
Something sad happened with my February Lady Sweater.  I finished my first lace repeat, and had even added stitch markers all the way across to make the lace easy.  I was totally loving the pattern and feeling excited about this sweater.  Disaster struck when I started knitting the row in which you divide for the sleeves.  The changes I had made didn’t end up working out.  I thought I knew what I was doing, but really I didn’t.  I puzzled and puzzled, but in the end there was nothing to do but start over with new numbers.  Before I could think too much about what I was doing, I pulled the needles from my work.  I have never frogged that much knitting before, about 200 yards worth.  Recovery was a little rough.  It took me a couple of days before I could make myself sit down and figure things out and cast on again.  I am proud of myself because my first thought was, “Forget you, February Lady Sweater.”

It’s kind of funny that I had to start over on my sweater this week, because we are also starting over with chickens.  We found a new home for our previous flock last fall for various reasons.  I have really missed having chickens though.  We’ve all been taking turns reading The Small Scale Poultry Flock, and this is definitely my new favorite book about keeping chickens.  We are doing things a little bit differently with our new flock based on what we have read in this book.

So what are you guys knitting this week?  I hope your projects are going better than mine!!
p.s. I put up a new spring header. Beatrix’s Immie still fits, yay!

Good for you! Sometimes you’ve just got to rrrrrip, and it’s a difficult thing to do!! I always have to back away for a while after destroying what I thought were some brilliant ideas. I know. I know. Remember, you are a better woman for it. 😉

I frogged my FLS, too. I did it after I ordered more yarn to finish it, so now I have a bazillion yards of RED cottonease and no idea what to do with it. I AM glad I frogged it, though, because I think I would’ve been unhappy with the finished sweater.

Bah. My link is wrong. Here’s my real Yarn Along: http://wildfaeriecaps.blogspot.com/2012/03/yarn-along.html

You’d think four cups of coffee (plus an espresso) would have woken me up by now. *sigh*

I applaud you for posting about having to restart–it makes me feel better about messing up so many projects.

And I can’t wait to see more chick photos!

I am sorry to hear about your February Lady Sweater, but I am glad you frogged it and started it again. You’re brave! I love your banner with Beatrice’s Immi. I really like this pattern, I bookmarked it when you knitted it. Maybe, in the future it will fit into my plans!

    Beautiful new header!

Way to stick to the February sweater. I’m still afraid to tackle an EZ pattern….

    Beautiful Immie! It’s truly gorgeous.
Just returned from a knitting weekend with some girlfriends, and managed to make a delightfully cozy hat for … ME!
And I’m doing a lot of reading about sheep.

Oh dear, I will commiserate with you on a (much!) smaller scale…this week I finally finished a baby hat – a small, easy project – one I have made before – after ten (10!) tries. I have no idea what happened, somehow mentally I psyched myself out along the way and couldn’t get it together. Oh well, ten time’s the charm?

I’m proud of you for started your sweater over! I know it can be hard to pull out all the work you’ve done.

I love your new spring header by the way.

I should check and see if our library has that book. We miss having chickens too and are planning on getting them again this year.

    Happy Wednesday!

    Love, Taryn

Having recently renewed our commitment to buy some land out in the country, we’re reading and rereading our old farm books as well. We had given up on the dream for a time, but are now moving back to it. It feels good to reignite a dream deferred.

I’m sure that the yarn will behave itself the second time its knit. Show it who’s boss! And enjoy your chickens.

I’d love to hear what you’ve learned about chickens from that book…I haven’t read that one, but we’re working our way through a couple livestock and chicken books since we have our first chicks coming in a few weeks! I’d love to hear what you’ve learned or are planning to do differently…

    Blessings,
    Kimberly in SC.

Well good for you for starting again. I frogged a sweater that I thought I could edit months ago and only just now sucked it up enough to try again. I’ve heard frogging is supposed to be therapeutic and satisfying, but it’s also so sad!

So sorry you had to frog, but that will make it all the sweeter when you actually finish! Love the new header!

Ugh, that’s a nightmare. One of the many reasons I stick with crochet, that and the fact it is easier for me because I learned crochet first. We have a flock of 5 chickens. I refused to go larger because I experienced having many (30 plus) when I was younger. I hope you find your chicken raising this time around to be more serene.

Oh… I hate it when that happens. I was working on the Starfish cardigan (http://www.ravelry.com/projects/merrysherri/starfish-cardigan) and was almost up to the arms when I noticed a big mistake. I was so frustrated, because it was hard to rip back and figure out where you were, so I frogged the entire thing. Now I have this huge ball (because I hand felted when a new ball was started) and I’m to mad at myself to start again. At least you are starting over, that’s great. I made the Feb. sweater and I love it. You will be happy with it when it is all done. Oh, and I LOVE your new header. It’s so nice to see children that actually wear what you make them. I don’t knit for mine anymore because they will never wear what I make. Hopefully when they are older they will appreciate it more. My daughter does love the knit animals and monsters though.

THAT is exactly my fear is trying to figure out a pattern for myself. I’m afraid my math skills will be lacking and I won’t realize it until I’m 3/4 of the way down. Just the thought of ripping out all that beautiful needlework makes my stomach hurt. 🙂

Well done for sticking with it, I always find it takes forever to work back to the place you frogged, and from then on it’s knitting as usual. I hope you have more luck this time!
And: I love your new header!!

Oh, I know exactly what you mean in not being able to return to a frogged item for a while after. It’s a little grieving process we have to go through of the lost effort, time and input. Good luck with it.
