Silas is still feeling poorly, and I’ve succumbed as well. Today I made a simple ear oil for him, as he’s been tugging at his ears and fussing when he nurses. I combined one part fresh chopped garlic (from my garden) and one part dried mullein flowers in a little jar, covered it all with olive oil and placed the jar in a hot water bath to simmer for about an hour before straining (recipe adapted from this book.) A few drops of warmed oil in Silas’ ears seems to give him some relief which makes it well worth having a baby who smells strongly of garlic.
Tis’ the season for illness and for snuggling, drinking hot tea, and knitting.
