The Algernourne Oak resides in one of the most interesting places we have visited thus far on our Remarkable Trees of Virginia adventures. We actually had to drive across a moat to reach it’s home! This live oak, the third largest of it’s species in Virginia, is estimated to be close to five hundred years old and resides along the parade ground at Ft. Monroe. We had a wonderful time exploring the fort and visiting with this living witness to so much history!
(We visited this tree the same day we visited the Emancipation oak, I just haven’t had a chance to post about it until now!)
