Yesterday I decided that I couldn’t wait any longer to try making a beeswax Nativity. (I used two separate molds: this nativity scene with manger, and this one with wise men, camel, angel, and sheep Chocolate Mold
(you should be able to find beeswax locally or you can order beeswax pelletsthat melt nice and quickly.)

I melted my beeswax in a glass two cup measuring cup placed in a pot of simmering water today because I needed a pour spout. The molds didn’t sit flat so I held each one in my hand, filled it with melted beeswax, let it set for a minute, and then carefully placed it in my fridge to harden. The figures popped out the molds easily and I used an x-acto knife to trim them up.
I set them out on my mantle, but was afraid they might get too warm.
Jonny felt it necessary to tease me.
So now they are on top of my secretary desk, minus Baby Jesus and the three wise kings. Making this Nativity was easy and well worth it. I am really happy with how it turned out.
And if Beatrix runs off with any of the pieces or chews them up, I can easily make a new one!
The three wise kings are up on a shelf waiting for Epiphany and it seems they were joined by the wicked witch from Hansel and Gretel as well. Baby Jesus has to be well hidden or else the girls will run off with Him. I found our other Baby Jesus in a vent last year.
I also caved and brought out our other Nativity set, rather than waiting a bit longer and bringing it out piece by piece like I was planning.
Larkspur was super happy about that and spent the afternoon (that’s really not true-maybe thirty minutes which is a long time for her) playing with all the figures.
By the end of the day everybody who’s anybody had shown up to wait for the arrival of Baby Jesus, even the witch, despite the boys’ arguments that Hansel, Gretel, and the witch should not be part of the Nativity.
Larkspur snuck the three wise kings down from their perch on the mantle to play with them, but I replaced them to do their waiting with the rest of us.

I love this shelter for your nativity. Did Jonny make this shelter? I also made the beeswax nativity using your instructions two years ago but this year I am hoping to knit a nativity using this book http://www.amazon.com/Knitivity-Create-Your-Christmas-Scene/dp/1449403654/ref=sr_1_8?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1416493155&sr=1-8&keywords=knit+a+nativity
As you can tell, I am revisiting your Advent posts as I prepare our home. I am so thankful for yours and Grace’s Advent posts, they inspire me every year!
