(photo from Christmas Eve. For those who are friends on Facebook, yes we did find a last minute tree on the afternoon of Christmas Eve: A cedar from a local farm, and a reminder that we do enjoy the tradition of going out to cut a tree together.)
At our house it is Christmas for another week, and we are truly enjoying embracing this new tradition. I do believe that I have definitely discovered that for me, one day just isn’t enough. By spreading our Christmas celebration over a course of a week or more, things just feel calmer, more focused, and therefore more joyful. There have been no overwhelming piles of gifts, there hasn’t been any mad scrambling, and the only late nights for Jonny and I have been due to little girls with coughs. When I realize I have forgotten something, I am able to simply say, “tomorrow, we still have tomorrow.” Our plans for the week continue to evolve as we discover what works for our family and what helps us best to remember why we are celebrating. I hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season as well.
