Blueberry Day

Today we headed back to the berry farm; this time for blueberries.
(and in case you are local and visit this farm, they sale the yummiest ever whole milk yogurt-I got the lemon today and it is so good!)
The weather has been unbearably hot, so I knew we would need to be quick.  Looking though Beatrix’s clothes, I realize that I really do need to get busy sewing her some new summer clothes that will keep her covered without cooking her.  Today I just had to put a lot of sunscreen on Bea, because her new dress is so long she would have tripped on it.
I am always amazed at how excited my kids are when I announce we are going berry picking, and how quickly they lose interest and want to stop once we arrive and get to work.
Blueberries are my favorite berries to pick.  I remember nine years ago driving to a little blueberry farm outside of Athens, Georgia in a beat up old pick up truck with Seth and picking berries all afternoon while he road on my back.  Those were such sweet days, and we visited that farm many times.  That old truck was tempermental and there were times when it would die on a back country road and I would be forced to knock on the door of strangers asking for shelter for Seth and I while the engine cooled.
This is the saddest girl who ever had to go blueberry picking.
And this is her sad little sister.  I am not sure why they always have these sad, serious little expressions.  These two girls of mine are really dramatic for sure.
This is the hand of the boy who picked the most berries!
(and I should add that he didn’t complain about it either)
So I’ve already frozen some of our blueberries, and now I am going to head to the kitchen to start a batch of jam.  I am sort of obsessed with canning and preserving right now.
What do you do with blueberries?  Have you gone picking this year yet?
