Tonight and tomorrow night I will be working to finish Larkspur’s birthday gifts. (And today I bought her a very special new baby doll. Sort of the opposite of what I would usually buy, but it has eyes that open and close and it looks old fashioned like the dolls I used to play with at my grandparents’ house, and Larkspur is going to love it so much, and she would just destroy an expensive waldorf doll, and I don’t have time to make her one, and, and, and…)
Jenny, from Our Plans Multiplied is an adoptive mom and someone whom I have been planning to be friends with for I think about two years now (that sounds funny, “planning to be friends with” We have to get together this summer.) She asked me to list ten things that I love. I am going to leave out the obvious ones like Jesus, and my family cause you already know I love them, and try to think of at least a few things that you might not know about me. That’s probably impossible though since I am like an open book here.
I love:
1. Speaking of books, Good Literature! Oodles and oodles and stacks and stacks of books.
2. Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 My all time favorite.
3. Practicing piano. Every time I walk by our piano I want to sit down and practice (and I need to!) Of course most every time I walk by I am carrying Beatrix so things usually don’t work out. She likes to play the piano as well. Anyway, I am so glad I finally started taking lessons and that I have a friend to teach me because I would probably be super weirded out taking lessons from a stranger.
4. Speaking of Beatrix, I love her sloppy open mouthed kisses, right on the lips. We love our chuthers. (That’s Larkspurese for, we love each other.)
Okay, I realize that I may be out of surprises. None of this is news. I’ll try harder.
5. Old wood
You probably could have guessed that. Every time I ask Jonny to build me something I want to know if he can build it out of old wood. We are running out.
6. All the wonderful things that Jonny builds for our house. Currently he’s building me a pantry. It’s not quite finished but I know I am going to love it. In fact, I am convinced it’s going to change my life.
7. Siouxsie and the Banshees (80s Siouxsie, 90s not so much) although I rarely listen to them anymore. They will always be my favorite band.
8. Lookout Mtn. TN (nostalgia- I grew up playing on that mountain.)
9. The way children accept others so unconditionally, including new siblings!
10. Working in the garden until it’s too dark to see the soil anymore.
The garden renovation is up next as soon as the pantry is finished!
11. Feral kittens. I don’t have time for them anymore and I am pretty sure that Jonny has banned them, but I miss socializing hissing, spitting, feral kittens. Oh, I want one. Just one. What’s one more?
12. The sun on my face.
13. Warming my freezing cold hands on the tummies of my little boys. (and hearing them squeal!)
Oh, okay, I guess I’ll stop now.
