I started reading The Dangerous Journey, based on Pilgrims’s Progress to my children tonight. While I remember my dad reading Little Pilgrim’s Progress to me as a child, I don’t think I ever saw this edition full of wonderful illustrations. Just a warning, some of them are pretty frightening. Despite the fact that my boys are very sheltered, they are thrilled with the pictures though, rather than disturbed by them. Of course this is not the original text, but an abridged version for children, but it is very good. I did get Seth a copy of Little Pilgrim’s Progress to read on his own, another abridgement, but not quite so abridged as this one.
Reading the first few chapters tonight led to lots of great conversation. I am so glad I bought this.
And based on your recommendations, here is what I will be reading in the coming months:
Giants in the Earth: A Saga of the Prairie O. E. Rolvaag
The Country of the Pointed Firs Sarah Orne Jewett
Crossing to Safety Wallace Stegner
Thanks, and feel free to (please) leave me any other suggestions!
