Every year we make a trip to a local farm to buy pumpkins. The kids really look forward to the big day. The farm has not only pumpkins, but also Christmas trees, asparagus (well in the spring), chickens, llamas, goats, a few cows and horses, rope swings, hiking trails, and I could go on and on. Despite all this they have managed to keep the feel very “homey” and non commercialized. If you go at the right time you can have the place pretty much to yourselves. Every year the boys have sort of a contest going to see who can pick out the biggest pumpkin (all the pumpkins are the same price regardless of size). When we get home, they race to get the scale and start weighing them. Last year Keats won with a 29 lb. pumpkin. This year Seth beat that with a 31 pounder.
On another note, when Seth was young I used to print and mail piles of pictures to relatives periodically. I haven’t done that in years. With more kids it has just become too time consuming and expensive and these things sort of fall to the wayside I guess. The cool thing is that now I can share pictures, and lots of them with the blog! So here is a bunch of pictures of the kids for my family whom all live too far away to see the kids regularly.
Seth takes choosing which one is the biggest very seriously.
This teepee is constructed from cedar poles and dried corn stalks. Jonny wants to build one for the kids in our backyard.
The brown llama was pretty friendly, but there was also a white one that spit at us.
Baby cows slobber a lot.
The rope swings are so much fun.
A really pretty creek runs through the back portion of the farm.
There is actually a zipline running across the stream. We just discovered it this year. It is kind of scary looking to me because it is pretty high off the ground as it crosses the stream, but the boys really loved it and I managed to keep my cool while Jonny helped them back and forth.
The kids had a super fun day, but it really wiped me out!

Ok, so I know you don't know me, but I was wondering if the pumpkin patch was Snead's Farm. I found your blog when I was doing a search for homemade gifts. My husband and I just took my daughter there this weekend and it looks like the same place…so if it is what a small world and I must been meant to find your blog. I will be praying for your pregnancy and the arrival your new sons! Please feel free to stop by my blog when you are back online!

The pictures are all adorable but I especially liked the one of Seth sitting by the tree looking down into the stream. I would have to enlarge and frame that one. And the one of Keats and Seth both looking down into the stream is good of the two of them. I'd have to frame that one too. I liked the one of all three on the tire swing but it would be even better if all their faces were totally hidden, just three mysterious children on a swing. I miss having a family so much. I guess one day I will have great-grandkids but I have no idea when that will happen. Your 3 kids looked like they were having the time of their lives at the farm. And Jonny had a good idea about the teepee for the kids. I'm sure you've probably said before, but what are the ages of your kids now, Moses and Samuel included? Maybe you could mention their ages in your next blog? How is your fund raising going for the boys' trip to America? Hope you've got what you need. I feel so bad that I sent so little but that was the amount of my found money. Guess I'll go look at the pictures a little longer. I'll get teary-eyed after a little while and then I'll go on to something else.My hair is finally beginning to grow back a little. Hair is supposed to grow 1/2 inch each month. But mine has grown maybe a half inch in TWO months. I'm thinking it will probably grow until it get's about an inch all over and then will stop growing. But if that happens I'll just buy myself a couple wigs. Just wanted to give you an update in case you were wondering. Losing all my hair was the funniest thing to happen to me in my entire life. I mean, who would have thought a person would just go bald for no reason at all? Not me!!! And it all fell out within a week's time. It just came out in chunks! Anyway, thanks for sharing all the pictures of the kids. I really enjoyed them. Bea is due mid-November, right? My oldest son was born on the 19th and M and I will have been married 36 years on the 18th. Maybe she'll hit one of those two dates. Take care, my friend, and stay close to the Lord for He is your life. (Yours and mine.)Marj
