When I realized that my colors didn’t work well for colorwork on Silas’ hat, I set it aside and thought about ripping it back and finding some bright white yarn for the “snowflakes.” I came to the conclusion that it’s better just to finish it. Silas doesn’t mind that the colorwork doesn’t stand out, and the truth is that this hat will just get lost. So, I’m going to finish it and move on. Better colorwork next time!

I’m creeping along in The Diary of ¬†Country Priest, and reading Root Cause as well. I started out reading Root Cause really quickly, but started to get overwhelmed with all the information, so I am moving more slowly now.

I finished my shawl, but haven’t blocked it yet. I’m so excited about this one because I dyed the yarn with goldenrod, and it’s one of my favorite colors! I think this is the first thing I have knit for myself using yarn I dyed!

Now I’m working on a hat for Silas. It is blue and will have a bit of colorwork in the gray/white yarn in the photo. I’m new to colorwork. It’s so fun! I don’t think I’ve posted photos here yet of the hat I knit for Beatrix…will do that soon.

As far as reading goes, I made the decision to set Lila aside for now. I think I’ll return to it (especially considering that I’m halfway through), but I want to join some friends who are reading The Diary of a Country Priest. I confess that I’ve picked this book up several times in recent years and abandoned it after the first few pages. I’ve read far more this time around than I have in the past. I like aspects of it, but wouldn’t say that I am enthralled. Of course, I think that’s the point. It’s subtle in nature, which can be hard for my tired brain. However, there are sentences sprinkled throughout that have grabbed me and I am marking up my book a little bit. I don’t usually do that. So we’ll see.
