~Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me each month and share what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! Post your photo(s) on your blog or on Instagram (#yarnalong) and then share a link below to either your blog or Instagram post!~ (this post contains affiliate links.)
Hello, and welcome back to the Yarn Along! As I’ve mentioned, Yarn Along will be a monthly link-up beginning the first Wednesday of each month. Today’s link-up will remain open until the next one begins on February 7th. Out of consideration for others, please limit your links to posts that are truly in the spirit of the Yarn Along, sharing your current projects and what you are reading. Thanks for being here!
It seems that I’m mostly reading children’s literature lately, which is fine by me. I spent most of my reading time during the second half or so of last year reading through the Anne of Green Gables series. I slowed down when I hit Rainbow Valley (next to last in the series), but am trying to get back into it now. My current read aloud to my older girls is Little Men, and I’m reading Little Pear to Silas and Job. I remember reading it to Seth and Keats when they were about the same age and Silas and Job are loving it as much as they did! It’s a really fun read aloud (with nice shortish chapters 🙂 ).
I recently cast on Andrea’s Shawl and I love the way it is constructed! I’m used to knitting neck down shawls, but this one begins with the border. I’m knitting it in two shades of yarn I dyed using dahlia flowers and leaves. I got a deep gold from the flowers which I then overdyed with indigo for the deeper mossy green, and the soft beige was achieved using just the leaves. I love these two shades together!

I have read “Little Men” and Jo’s Boys as well. “Anne Of Green Gables” series is a favorite as is the “Emily ” and the “Pat” series by L.M Montgomery. In fact the ” Pat ” series is my favorite.

Aw, sweet news that this is here. Yarn Along was a big deal for me several years back and I have missed it.
Last month I fell back in love with LM Montgomery when I read Jane of Lantern Hill and have plans to pick up more of her books this year. I really forgot how wonderful of a writer she was which sounds silly now that I say it.

Thank you for the return of the project!

Hi Ginny,
I discovered your blog a few weeks ago and I think it’s just delightful. That you are both a knitter and a mother of a large family is inspiring – I have one child (so far – I’d love a big family) and it seems like a rare moment that I can knit uninterrupted!
Yarn Along sounds like a great project. I’ll add mine shortly. Children’s books are often much more exciting than adult books I find! Louisa May Alcott books are a favourite of mine. I fell back in love with Little Women and its sequels in my 20s. It is lovely that they’re read-alouds for your kids.
Warm wishes,
Kat from Australia

I’m so glad that you’ve brought the Yarn Along back. Once a month is the perfect solution.
I’ve not read Little Men, although I’ve read the rest. Intriguing.

Oh, Ginny….this made my day! I am so so happy you have returned with Yarn Along…and a much more manageable version for yourself! Winning! I am just trying to figure out how to do a little more blogging in my own life…it has been 6 months and I am keen to go back to it.
Being a Canadian girl, I am surprised to see the Rainbow Valley book. Is it from the Anne series? I can hardly wait to read the whole Anne of Green Gables series to my kids this summer when we drive our converted schoolbus on a 2 month cross-country trip. The plan is to visit LM Montgomery’s home on PEI.
Your mossy green is gorgeous! One of my favourite colours along with a deep denim blue and a soft pink. It is high time I also ventured back into dyeing some wool.
Happy New Year, Ginny…wishing you and your wonderful family a great year ahead.
Love, Jules

SO GLAD Yarn Along is back!!!! 🙂 Gorgeous colors for your shawl! I started my first project that involves multiple colors, and picking the colors was tough! I kept going back and forth.

I am thrilled you started up Yarn Along again, revised and monthly. I hope your mom is getting good health news and you are less stressed (praying for you and her). I have a new found rescue kitten that I am incorporating into a mini schnauzer household. Let’s say I have my work cut out! I also have been trying to catch time to knit to ease my worries of the day.

Oh, I am so glad you are back. I missed your link party so much, that I decided just recently to start my own. Can I link my post of 31st Dec to yours. It has some of my projects of last year at the top, and then lower down my new party. I know some link parties don’t like links linking, so if you say no that is fine. I am Ginny too.
Ginny says
Hi Ginny, I love that your name is spelled the same as mine! Not so common! I would prefer if you only link Yarn Along posts here, because that is what other folks are expecting when they click around on the links. Thank you!
