~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me every Wednesday to share a single photo of what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too! Share your photo on your blog, on Instagram (#yarnalong), or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us!~
Larkspur has been bugging me to finish the Sproutlette dress. I explained that all the fingering weight stockinette was too boring, so she took it upon herself to start working on it each evening while I read aloud. She added about an inch to it, and then I added another, and I will be able to start the chart along the bottom hem today. That won’t be boring!
I’m still reading The Ear of the Heart . The girls and I started reading The Saturdays this week, and so far they love it.

Little Dress is darling!

“The Saturdays” introduced us to one of our favorite authors! We love her books.
That little dress is simply adorable.

I am knitting the same little dress (after seeing it on your blog) in purple for my little girl due mid-June. I got bored halfway through the skirt, too! Fingering weight plain knitting was taking a long time to get the necessary length, but I made myself keep going, and now I’m several rows into the bottom lace pattern. Back to interesting “pay attention” knitting!

Love the Melendy quartet!! Read all of them!

I read “The Saturdays” to my boys earlier this school year. It was such a fun read! Looooong chapters though, we would only make it through part but it kept them begging for me to continue. Great memories!
Ginny says
The chapters are really long! We read about half a chapter a night.
CathieJ says
Well done Larkspur. She knows how to get what she wants.

All of those Elizabeth Enright books are fun. The Saturdays is probably our least favorite so that should tell you something. Thimble Summer, which is not part of the series, is my personal favorite. The audiobooks of these are pretty well done also.
The dress is so pretty. I guess I’m a fan of boring stitches!

How delightful to be knitting for the new baby together with your daughter! What a special little dress that will be.
The Saturdays and the rest of the Melendy books are all-time favorites in our house. They are so fun to read aloud as well. The depiction of family life is one of the best in kid lit. I’m sure you will love the chapter about Oliver and his moths. Are your big guys listening in too? I would think they’d be a little fond of Rush. Happy reading! 🙂

My older boys have read them all!

How fun to be reading Enright’s The Saturdays! My kids and I loved that as a read a loud. That cute dress is fun, too. How precious to have an extra hand when the going gets tough. Kids grow so fast.
Helen says
I should have said to work on projects WITH you. lol
Helen says
Wow, it’s got to feel great to have a daughter now capable enough to work on projects for you! I think you both had a win/win situation.
Ruby says
That has to be the sweetest baby knit ever, made all the sweeter by the fact that both mama & older sister are taking turns infusing love into it. Makes me tear up, Ginny. xx

~ How darling that Larkspur is knitting along with the little dress. The color is so loVely, like a vintage color.
Makes me wish to knit a little dress ! How is the new goat baby doing?
Best,
Shell ~
Ginny says
She’s doing really well!
Sarah says
What a darling project. Now Larkspur gets the joy of having participated in the making of it – that is special.
I have many Enright books on my shelf and have been meaning to scan to see what age they are most appropriate for. Somehow I am not sure I really read many of them myself as a child!
Jenny says
Oh WOW that dress is beautiful, I really love the colours – and it’s so sweet that you’ve been able to work on it along with larkspur so that both of your creativity and hard work are now a part of the dress 🙂 jenny xx
Caroline says
How lovely to share the knitting load xx
Katrine says
What a beautiful dress that’s going to be! Also love the way you outsource the boring parts. I always read while I work in stockinette, that way it doesn’t matter how boring it is.
Deborah says
I’m intrigued! The Saturdays looks fascinating! I love kids’ books.
Your knitting is gorgeous as always. Happy Wednesday!
